Welcome to our web site

We here at His Servants' Ministry, teach the whole Truth of God's Holy Word. We teach God's goodness and mercy and Heaven; but we also teach God's righteous wrath and judgment to come and an eternal Hell, a Lake of Fire.

It deeply saddens me the way that the world is turning away from the goodness of Almighty God. The vast majoriy of people in the world today never, ever, think of eternity. They just keep on keeping on in their sin, and they really must think they will go to Heaven. My dear friend, there really IS a Hell, and there really IS a Judgment Day when ALL people will be held accountable for their sins. BEWARE!!!

Book of Daniel
Chapter 11

THEME: Vision continued; Antiochus Epiphanes identified; vicious and vocal decision of the Man of Sin; victory of the willful king is temporary

Chapters 10 through 12 all deal with the same vision, and for that reason chapter 11 simply continues chapter 10. It is a very important prophetic chapter because it fills in some of the details of the Seventy Weeks of chapter 9, which especially concern Daniel's people, Israel. It also fills in some of the details of the last three of the four nations symbolized in the multi-metallic image of chapter 2 and in the beasts of chapter 7. Chapter 11 is very important, or it would not have caused Satan to hinder the angel in coming to give Daniel the answer to his prayer. This prophecy concerns the nations of Persia and Greece, which were all-important in relation to Daniel's people.

Another notable impact of Chapter 11 is that it prophetically bridges part of the gap between the Old and New Testaments. Some speak of the time period between the Old and New Testaments as being a period of silence . . . but that is not really true. This time period was the time of Israel's greatest struggle. They suffered at the hands of both Syria and Egypt. As these two nations warred against each other, Palestine was caught in the middle . . . as the armies of these two nations fluctuated back and forth, up and down, across the land of Israel.

During this mid-testament period, came the rise of Antiochus Epiphanes, who is a type of, or a symbol of, the future Antichrist of the future. This evil one will be identified in this chapter. He was a wicked persecutor of the Jews, far exceeding any Pharaoh, Haman, Hitler or modern Russia. Antiochus Epiphanes has been called the Nero of Jewish history, and has also been called the Great Profaner. This really points forward to the evil, horrible Man of Sin that shall one day come (2 Thes.2:3).

There is a important division in the chapter which separates history and prophecy . . . the historical from the religious section. We must remember, it was all future when it was originally written by Daniel, but part of it has been fulfilled.

This prophecy is rather complicated and delves into prophecy a little deeper than the average person cares to go. Most people seem to like the exciting, sensational part of prophecy, but they do not want to go to the work of digging deep down into the Word of God to see what it really says. But, if you are one who enjoys a deep and detailed study of prophecy, you will be happy by this exceptional part of the incredible Holy Word of God.

Vision Continued (11:1-20)

This prophecy is a bridge over the gap from Media-Persia over to Greece, from Asia to Europe. It tells us of the shift of world powers from one continent to another, from the East to the West. We must always remember that this prophecy concerns the people of Daniel (Israel). It was especially important to Israel because they would be caught between these different powers. It would be a period of great suffering for these people of God.

Daniel 11:1 Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and to strengthen him. (KJV)
The one who is speaking here is the angel. This simply continues from chapter 10. The angel may have been Gabriel; we are not told his name, so we do not know for certain. We must consider that it occurred during the reign of Darius, when Daniel was thrown into the den of lions. Darius tried in vain to deliver Daniel, but he was trapped by his own decree. Yet he said to Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee (Dan.6:16).
I stood to confirm and strengthen him . . . it seems that this specific angel confirmed and strengthened Darius in his faith and he also comforted and assisted Daniel. Daniel 6:22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. (KJV)
So historically, this is where the vision fits in, and it bridges the gap between the Old and New Testaments, the mid-testaments period.

Daniel 11:2 And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia. (KJV)
From here, on through verse 34, is one of the most remarkable examples of PREWRITTEN HISTORY (prophecy). This section has caused vicious critics to demand a late date for the writing of the Book of Daniel. There are precise clear-cut statements of prophecy here which have been literally fulfilled. The prophecy of this chapter is so detailed and so accurate that non believing critics refuse to accept the FACT that it was written BEFORE it happened. They insist that Daniel's prophecy was written after it had become history. Some people call these critics liberal . . . but to me they are severely narrow-minded people! They say that they are broad-minded, but they have an absolutely narrow view of Scripture. Clearly, Daniel Chapter 11, is one of the most remarkable Passages of prewritten history (prophecy) in the Most Holy Word of God, and conservative and fundamental students can easily agree with the early date of Daniel. This means that Almighty God Himself was in total control of what Daniel wrote! (2 Tim.3:16-17; 2 Pet.1:20-21).

When the angel gave this information to Daniel, he knew that Daniel would not live to see it fulfilled. Clearly, it was recorded for the comfort and encouragement of the people of God who would live through the difficult days it describes. I truly believe that it was also written for ALL future generations as a testimony to the fact that God knows the end from the beginningActs 15:18  Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. (KJV) . . . Dear one, God is amazingly awesome! . . . Also see: (Isa.44:7; 46:10; 48:3, 5).
Three kings in Persia . . . Ahasuerus, Artaxerxes and Darius (Ezra 4:6-7, 24). The Ahasuerus of Esther (Dan.9:1) is identified with Xerxes, both in Greek history and in Scripture, appearing to be proud, self-willed, careless, breaking Persian customs, passionate, superficial and very unreliable and unstable. The fourth shall be far richer than they all . . . it is possible that Xerxes is the Ahasuerus in the Book of Esther (Est.1:1). He was very rich, as the prophecy here said he would be. Xerxes  riches were well-known. Persia reached its climax and showed its greatest power in his invasion of Greece, 480 B.C. After his overthrow at Salamis, Persia is viewed as politically dead, although it did existhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esther

Four Persian Kings

  • Cyrus reigned 2 years after Astyages or Darius the Mede had taken to Babylon in 538 B.C. and reigned 9 years Dan.10:1).
  • Cambyses, the son of Cyrus, reigned 7 years over Persia, 527-520 B.C.
  • Darius I reigned 35 years, 520-485 B.C. He was the first king of Persia to invade Greece, but was defeated at the battle of Marathon 490 B.C.
  • Xerxes reigned 21 years, 485-464 B.C. He was the Persian king that stirred up all against the realm of Grecia, fulfilling Daniel 11:2. He also was defeated by the Greeks in 480-479 B.C.

Kings of Persia After Xerxes:
1. Artaxerxes I reigned 40 years, 464-424 B.C.
2. Xerxes II reigned only 1 year, 423 B.C.
3. Darius II reigned 19 years, 423-404 B.C.
4. Artaxerxes II reigned 46 years, 404-358 B.C.
5. Artaxerxes III reigned 20 years, 358-338 B.C.
6. Darius III reigned 8 years 338-330 B.C.

Daniel 11:3 And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. (KJV)
A mighty king... do according to his will . . . this is Alexander the Great who came to power in 335 B.C. over the Graeco-Macedonian Empire. He put down Persia and assumed world dominion. This answers to the he goat's great horn (Dan.8:8). Alexander invaded Persia 334 B.C., to avenge the wrongs of Greece on Persia for Xerxes' past invasion.

Daniel 11:4 And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those. (KJV)
Alexander the Great was a world ruler and probably the greatest military strategist this world has ever seen. Sadly, he died an alcoholic in 323 B.C., and his own posterity did NOT inherit his vast kingdom (Da. 8:8, 22). Four of his generals divided the empire into four geographical areas, each ruled by one general. Supposedly Cassander took Macedonia; Lysimachus took Asia Minor (modern Turkey); Seleucus Nicator took Syria and the remainder of the Middle East; and Ptolemy took Egypt. All four families warred among themselves. Eventually they ALL lost their kingdoms when the Romans marched east.
Kingdom... divided toward... four winds . . . is the fourfold division of Alexander's kingdom at his death (Dan.8:8, 22), after the battle of Ipsus, 301 B.C. It did NOT go to his posterity, nor according to his dominion . . . NONE of his successors had as wide a domain as Alexander himself did.

Daniel 11:5 And the king of the south shall be strong, and one of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion. (KJV)
The king of the south . . . south of what? Directions in the Bible are always calculated from Jerusalem as the center of the earth (Eze.5:5). The king of the south is NOT from south of Los Angeles or Chicago or New York. This would be the king from the south of Israel, so this would be the king from Egypt. This king of the south would be one of the Ptolemies.
Historically, Alexander the Great's empire was divided into four nations. These four weaker nations were made up of the following regions: (1) Egypt, (2) Babylonia and Syria, (3) Asia Minor, and (4) Macedonia and Greece. The king of Egypt (the king of the south) was Ptolemy I or maybe a reference to the Ptolemaic dynasty in general.

Daniel 11:6 And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king's daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times. (KJV)
And in the end of years . . . when the predicted time shall be completed (Dan.11:13. 8:17; 12:13). The titles king of the north and king of the south, is given in relation to Judea, as the position. Egypt is mentioned by name (Dan 11:8, 42), although Syria is not . . . because the former was in Daniel's time a flourishing kingdom, whereas Syria was then simply dependent on Assyria and Babylon, which seems to be a proof of the authenticity of the Book of Daniel.
This verse is very complicated.
The king of the north refers to the line of the Seleucidae Empire. This brings us historically to about 250 B.C. Although historians differ on some of the minor details, they have recorded some of the things (manipulations, managements) that went on in the courts of that day, which fulfill this prophecy very correctly. It seems that to form a peace treaty between these two opposing families, Ptolemy Philadelphus of Egypt gave his daughter Berenice in marriage to Antiochus Theos of Syria. Antiochus was already married to Laodice, whom he divorced. After two years Ptolemy Philadelphus died; so Antiochus Theos put away Berenice with her son and took back his first wife, Laodice. She, it seems poisoned Antiochus Theos and ordered the death of Berenice and her son. Then Laodice put her own son, Seleucus Callinicus, on the throne. With all that manipulation, it is very interesting to see how ALL of this was in total agreement with the prophecy given to Daniel. http://www.ancient.eu/Seleucid_Empire/

Daniel 11:7 But out of a branch of her roots shall one stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail: (KJV)
But out of a branch of her roots . . . a branch from the same root from which she sprang. This was Ptolemy Euergetes, her brother, who, to avenge his sister's death, marched with a great army against Seleucus Callinicus, took some of his best places, it seems all Asia, from Mount Taurus to India, and returned to Egypt with an immense booty (plunder), forty thousand talents of silver, precious vessels, and images of their gods two thousand five hundred, and all without Callinicus daring to go against him in battle. This barely touches on these historic facts.
This was Ptolemy Euergetes, brother of Berenice, who came with an army and captured Syria, and he seized the fort which was the port of Antioch in that day. He avenged her death by overrunning Syria, even to the Euphrates. He supposedly killed Laodice.

Daniel 11:8 And shall also carry captives into Egypt their gods, with their princes, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue more years than the king of the north. (KJV)
Ptolemy, on hearing of a sedition in Egypt, returned with 40,000 talents of silver, precious vessels, and 2400 images, including Egyptian idols, which Cambyses had carried from Egypt into Persia. The idolatrous Egyptians were so gratified, that they named him Euergetes (benefactor).
He shall continue more years than the king of the north . . . Ptolemy survived Seleucus four years, reigning a total of forty-six years. Seleucus Callinicus supposedly died (an exile) by a fall from his horse; and Ptolemy Euergetes survived him four or five years.

Daniel 11:9  So the king of the south shall come into his kingdom, and shall return into his own land. (KJV)
Shall come into his kingdom . . . Egypt . . . not only with authorization, but with great spoil.
Ptolemy Euergetes took over that of Seleucus Callinicus. Having heard that an uprising had taken place in Egypt, Ptolemy Euergetes had to return quickly in order to suppress it; or he would have totally destroyed the kingdom of Callinicus.
It is recorded that Ptolemy Euergetes took into Egypt as booty four thousand talents of gold, forty thousand talents of silver, and twenty-five hundred idols. Do you see how this Scripture (prophecy) was literally fulfilled?

Daniel 11:10 But his sons shall be stirred up, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces: and one shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be stirred up, even to his fortress. (KJV)
His sons . . . Seleucus Callinicus the king of the north had two sons, Seleucus Ceraunus and Antiochus the Great . . . Seleucus Callinicus died by a fall from his horse. Shall assemble a multitude . . . The older son Seleucus Ceraunus did assemble a multitude of forces in order to recover his father's dominions; but, not having money to pay them, they became mutinous, and he was poisoned by two of his own generals. Ceraunus having died, Antiochus alone prosecuted the war with Ptolemy Philopater, Euergetes' son, until he had recovered all the parts of Syria subjugated by Euergetes. Pass through . . . like an overflowing flood (Dan.11:22, 26, 40; Isa.8:7-8; Amos 8:8; 9:5; Nah.1:8; Rev.12:15-16). Antiochus penetrated to Dura (near Cesare), where he gave Ptolemy a four months' truce. He then renewed the war at the expiration of the truce (vs 13), even to his fortress . . . where Antiochus was defeated.

Daniel 11:11  And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into his hand. (KJV)
The king of the south moved with choler . . . Ptolemy Philopater, who succeeded his father Euergetes . . . was furious at such great losses, and having Syria seized from him and his own kingdom endangered. It seems he was a very lazy man, to which his disasters were owed, he also had the hatred of his subjects against him for having murdered his father, mother and brother, was in sarcasm called Philopater, father-lover.
He shall set forth a great multitude . . . Antiochus, king of Syria, had a great force . . . one comment is 70,000 thousand infantry and 5,000 thousand cavalry; another says: 62,000 foot, 6,000 horse, and 102 elephants. But the multitude shall be given into his hand . . . into Ptolemy's hands; ten thousand of Antiochus' army were slain, and four thousand made captives. Antiochus was obliged to retreat with his scattered army to Antioch, from which he sent to solicit a peace.

Daniel 11:12 And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened by it. (KJV)
Ptolemy might have conquered and recovered all again, but he grew proud of his victory, and returned again to his vast luxuries. It is said that upon entering Judea, he went into the Temple of God at Jerusalem and entered the Holy Place, profaning it, which was strictly against the Law of God (Ex.26:33-34).
And even though he cast down many thousands, he was not strengthened by it. Instead of following up his victory by making himself master of all of Syria, as he could have done, he made peace with Antiochus, and gave himself up to pride, immoral licentiousness and his luxurious idleness. Had he kept on with his victory, he might have dispossessed Antiochus of his whole empire, but he did not do that.
Daniel 11:13 For the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former, and shall certainly come after certain years with a great army and with much riches. (KJV)
The king of the north shall return . . . Antiochus III, called the Great  ruled 223-187 B.C. Fourteen years after his defeat at Raphia, he returned to fight the Egyptians with a greater army than before and with many riches from his campaign in restoring the eastern parts of his empire.
About fourteen years later, Antiochus did return, for Ptolemy Philopater was now dead, and his son Ptolemy Epiphanes was king. Antiochus the Great shall raise great forces, even from Babylon and Media; Philopater being dead, and Ptolemy Epiphanes his son, yet a child, under whom Agathocles, a degenerate, proud person, hated by all, governed Egypt as his viceroy. There was continual warfare between Egypt and Syria. It seemed at this time, Israel repeatedly made wrong choices, finding herself captive first by one, then by the other.

Daniel 11:14 And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the robbers of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall. (KJV)
Many in the nation of Israel were slain at this time. They suffered untold grief and sorrow from both the king of the north and the king of the south. Shall exalt themselves to establish the vision . . . they now revolted from Ptolemy, and joined Antiochus; and this was the means of contributing greatly to the accomplishment of prophecies that foretold the calamities that should fall upon the Jews. But they shall fall . . . Scopas came with a great army from Ptolemy; and, while Antiochus was engaged in other parts, reduced Coelesyria and Palestine, subdued the Jews, placed guards on the coasts of Jerusalem, and returned with great spoils to Egypt.

Daniel 11:15  So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the most fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not withstand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to withstand. (KJV)
So the king of the north . . . Antiochus came to recover Judea. Scopas was sent by Ptolemy to oppose him; but he was defeated near the fountains of Jordan, and was forced to take refuge in Sidon with ten thousand men. Antiochus pursued and besieged him; and he was forced by famine to surrender, and only their lives were spared. Antiochus afterwards besieged several of the fenced cities, and took them. The king of the south, Ptolemy, and his ablest generals, were not able to oppose him. Antiochus Epiphanes marched on irresistibly and victoriously, besieging and taking fenced cities and strong holds such as Sidon and Samaria.

Daniel 11:16 But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed. (KJV)
He that cometh against him . . . is Antiochus. Shall do according to his own will . . . he shall do as he so pleases. None shall stand before him . . . he defeated many Egyptian cities and established himself in Israel . . . in the glorious land . . . Judea, for he had reduced Palestine; and the Jews supplied him with provisions, and assisted him to reduce the garrison that Scopas had left in the fortress of Jerusalem. Glorious land is the same as pleasant land (Dan.8:9; 11:16, 41, 45, Jer.3:19; Eze.20:6, 15; Zec.7:14). Which by his hand shall be consumed . . . it seems to me this could mean which shall be perfected in his hand . . . because Antiochus showed the Jews great favor, bringing back those that were dispersed, and re-establishing them in the land, and freeing the priests and Levites so they could do their work.
Antiochus held all Judea, the Jews not opposing, and with the provision and product of it maintained his army. To win them to his side from the Egyptians, he gave them liberties, as to their religion, encouraging their sacrifices, and easing their taxes.

As we consider verses 15 and 16, we now know why this has been given to Daniel to record, for it concerns the glorious land (Israel), the land that God had promised to Abraham and to those coming after him. http://www.hisservants.org/israel_promised_land_h_s.htm
These two verses predict what history now records as the victory of Antiochus the Great over Egypt. It was a crucial and vital victory, and it caused Israel to suffer terribly. If you want more information on the secular history of this period, check the larger Bible encyclopedias. They can give details of the secular history covered in this section. You will see that Daniel's prophecy was fulfilled in a remarkable way. There is a period of 125 years that was fulfilled in detail. http://www.internationalstandardbible.com/

Daniel 11:17 He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him. (KJV)
This brings us to about 198 or 195 B.C. when Antiochus the Great made a treaty with Egypt and gave his daughter Cleopatra to Ptolemy Epiphanes in marriage.
He shall also set his face to enter . . . Antiochus had intended to march his army into Egypt; but he thought it best to proceed by deception, so he suggested a treaty of marriage between Ptolemy Epiphanes and his daughter Cleopatra, here called the daughter of women, because of her great beauty and accomplishments.
Upright ones with him . . . Jasher or Jeshurun (Deut.32:15; Isa.44:2), is the nickname applied by the Hebrews to their nation. It is NOT used here in praise, because in Dan.11:14, they are called robbers, or men of violence, divisive: it is the general title of Israel, as having God for their God. Possibly it is used here to rebuke those who should have been God's upright ones for uniting with godless heathen in acts of violence.
Antiochus the Great acted as if being influenced by nothing but upright views in his covenant with Ptolemy. Corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him . . . Antiochus’ plan was to corrupt Cleopatra which would cause her to be a trap to Ptolemy, but instead she helped her husband and warned him against her father. Her husband's interests became more dear to her than her father's; and Ptolemy was put on guard against the intentions of Antiochus. http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/judaica/ejud_0002_0004_0_04347.html

Daniel 11:18 After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him. (KJV)
After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many . . . he took many of the isles in the collection of his war with the Romans, and crossed the Hellespont. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abydos_%28Hellespont%29
After making peace with Egypt, Antiochus the Great prepared a great fleet of ships, collecting most of the seafaring places on the coast of the Mediterranean, taking many islands, including Rhodes, Samos, Colophon, and others. But a prince for his own behalf . . . refers to another line, meaning Rome, which was beginning to arise in the west and move toward the east. Rome demanded taxes from the Syrians. The Romans were probably the best tax assessors and tax gatherers in the world until the modern American government perfected the system. As Rome began to rise, she was building a tremendous empire by taxing the people she captured. As the Syrians began to fall before Rome, there were many historical details that could be filled in. For more information on this, I would suggest some web sites for more information. http://endtimepilgrim.org/70wks2.htm
Shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease . . . after this, Antiocus will turn his attention to the coastland and conquer many cities. But a commander from another land will put an end to his disrespect and cause him to retreat in shame. A foreign leader will defeat him and put an end to his prideful arrogance.
Without his own reproach he shall cause it to turn upon him . . . this refers to the Roman representative who defeated Antiochus, causing him to withdraw from Greece to Asia. The Romans then defeated him in Asia Minor, compelling him to abandon all the country north of the Taurus. As a result the reproach Antiochus planned to cause Rome to suffer was turned upon himself. Lucius Scipio Asiaticus, the Roman general, by routing Antiochus at Magnesia (190 B.C.), caused the rebuke which he offered Rome by inflicting injuries on Rome's allies, to cease. He did it for his own glory.

Daniel 11:19 Then he shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land: but he shall stumble and fall, and not be found. (KJV)
Then he shall turn... toward... his own land . . . Antiochus was forced by Rome to give up all his territory west of the Taurus, so he fortified the cities left to him. Shall stumble and fall, and not be found . . . he attempted to plunder the temple of Jupiter at Elymais by night, whether through greed, or the need of money to pay the taxes imposed by Rome, he was slain with his soldiers in an insurrection of the inhabitants.
This refers to Antiochus the Great turning back to his own fort in Antioch. He was forced to raise 15,000 talents for Rome, to pay for the war. He marched into his eastern provinces to exact the unpaid taxes and perished in a war in Luristan, 187 B.C.

Daniel 11:20 Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle. (KJV)
Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes . . . the tax raiser who succeeded Antiochus the Great was his son, Seleucus IV, called Philopater, who reigned 187-176 B.C. His kingdom then consisted of Syria, Cilicia, Palestine, Mesopotamia, Babylonia, Media, and Persia.
Raiser of taxes . . . Seleucus IV was called a raiser of taxes because he was compelled to pay a yearly war insurance demanded by Rome. He raised money from many sources, even sending his minister, Heliodorus, to Jerusalem to plunder the Temple. Seleucus IV was assassinated by Heliodorus who sought to be king.
But within few days . . . just what is meant by the few days is not stated. It could not be that he ruled only a few days, for he reigned for 11 years. This could possibly refer to his quick death from the time he sought to plunder the Jewish Temple at Jerusalem to get the money deposited there, which is here called the glory of the kingdom.
He shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle . . . this refers to the way Seleucus IV died . . . not in anger and not in battle fighting with the enemy, but sordidly and treacherously assassinated by one in whom he trusted. He died of poison.
Another suggestion of within few days is . . . a reign of 11 years was few compared with the 37 years of Antiochus' reign.

Antiochus Epiphanes Identified (11:21-35)

Introduced to us now is the horribly vile person, Antiochus Epiphanes, who was king in Syria and is easily identified in history. This is the little horn that has already been fulfilled, as we saw back in chapter 8.

The Maccabees were Jewish. I believe that the Maccabees were men used by God at that particular time in history.

The Maccabees found in the Catholic Bible have some information on the abominable Antiochus Epiphanes, but I hesitate to go there because I simply do not agree with the Catholic religion.
Some comments on the Catholic bible:

Again, I do believe that the Maccabees were men used by God at that particular time in history.

Daniel 11:21 And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries. (KJV)
This prophecy is concerned with one king in the line of the Seleucidae, Antiochus Epiphanes. Most interpreters of Scripture consider this section to be a direct reference to this man. The prophecy fits the history of Antiochus Epiphanes perfectly. He is at the same time, a type of the Antichrist that illustrates and symbolizes of the Man of Sin (2 Thes.2:3) who is yet to come in the Tribulation Period. The careers and characters of both are so much alike.
Antiochus Epiphanes came to the throne in 175 B.C. He is called a vile person because of his blasphemies. He came to the throne with a program of peace . . . the coming Antichrist will come to power in the exact same way (Dan.9:27; Rev.6:1-2). He will introduce the Great Tribulation with 3 ½ years of peace, and the people of the world, and especially the Jews, will think they are entering the Millennium . . . when instead they are really entering the Great Tribulation period. http://lastdaysprophecy.org/L_D_tribulation_what.htm

Antiochus was an incredible deceiver and a flatterer. I advise and warn you to be very cautious of this type of person. You can find them everywhere, even in today’s ministry. This type of person has hurt the church more than anything else. We do NOT need people who will deceive and butter up people for their own advantage. We need honest, forthright men who will stand in the pulpit and tell it like it is in the Holy Word of God! Sad to say, these are getting fewer and farther between. Let us thank God for the good ones that are true to God and His Word!

Ten Reasone why Antichocus Epiphanes
Was NOT the yet to Come Antichrist

  • The expression in his estate is used in Daniel 11:7, 20-21, 38, indicating immediate succession, without a time break of over 2,000 years as would be the case if Antichrist had been referred to in Daniel 11:21-34.
  • There is no break mentioned in Daniel 11:21, as would be the case if there was to be a long period between Seleucus IV of Daniel 11:20 and the future Antichrist of Daniel 11:35-45. There IS such a break at the end of the reign of Antiochus Epiphanes (Dan.11:34), and the beginning of the prophecy of the future Antichrist in Daniel 11:35, where it is very clear that the reference is to the end time.
  • The kingdom was NOT given to Antiochus Epiphanes (Dan.11:21), but in the case of Antichrist, he IS given a crown (Rev.6:1-2) and power to rule (Rev.13:1-5).
  • Antiochus Epiphanes was forced to go back into his own land by the Romans (Dan.11:28-30), but Antichrist will NOT be forced by the Romans or anyone else until Christ comes (Zec.14:1-5; Rev.19:11-21). He will always do according to his own will (Dan.11:36).
  • Antiochus Epiphanes made 2 invasions of Egypt (Dan.11:25-31), while Antichrist will make only one (Dan.11:40-45).
  • In the 2nd invasion of Egypt Rome forced Antiochus Epiphanes to return to Syria (Dan.11:29-30), but when Antichrist takes Egypt (Dan.11:40-45) the Romans will surrender to him (Dan.7:23-24; Rev.17:12-17).
  • Antiochus Epiphanes was deeply grieved at the Roman opposition but finally yielded to their demand to liberate Egypt (Dan.11:30-31), while Antichrist will have no such opposition nor will he yield to Rome or any other power desiring to liberate Egypt (Dan.11:40-45; Rev.17:12-17).
  • The spoiling of Israel many days by the sword, flame, and captivity could not apply to Israel in the days of Antichrist, for the woman representing Israel at that time reaches the wilderness safely, without destruction or captivity (Rev.12:6, 14-17).
  • The whole passage of Daniel 11:21-34, was so exactly fulfilled concerning Antiochus Epiphanes, not to refer to him. It seems very clear that prophecy of the future Antichrist begins in Daniel 11:35.

Daniel 11:22 And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant. (KJV)
And with the arms of a flood . . . the arms which were overflown before him were his competitors for the crown. Arms (Dan.2:32; 10:6; 11:15, 22, 31) in this prophecy everywhere mean military power. Antiochus Epiphanes shall invade Egypt with overwhelming forces.
They were defeated by the forces of Eumenes and Attalus; and were dissipated by the arrival of Antiochus from Athens, whose presence unsettled all their measures. For more on Eumenes and Attalus, see: http://www.ancientanatolia.com/historical/pergamum_kingdom.htm
The prince of the covenant . . . Ptolemy Philometer, the son of Cleopatra, Antiochus' sister, who was joined in covenant with him. Ptolemy's guardians, while he was a boy, tried to recover from Epiphanes Coelo-Syria and Palestine, which had been promised by Antiochus the Great as Cleopatra's dowry in marrying Ptolemy Epiphanes. Therefore war arose. Philometer's generals were defeated, and Pelusium, the key of Egypt, taken by Antiochus, 171 B.C.
There is another comment on the prince of the covenant . . . that being that he was Onias, the high priest, whom Antiochus removed, and had put Jason in his place, who had given him a great sum of money . . . but then he put wicked Menelaus in his room, who had offered him a larger sum of money. Therefore he acted deceitfully in the alliance made with Jason. http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/11710-onias

Daniel 11:23 And after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully: for he shall come up, and shall become strong with a small people. (KJV)
And after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully . . . he shall come up, from Rome, where he had been a hostage for the payment of the tax laid on his father. Shall become strong with a small people . . . at first he had very few to support his cause when he arrived at Antioch, the people having been greatly divided by the many who claimed the crown; but being supported by Eumenes and Attalus, the few people increased, and he became strong.

Consider three parts in the history of the vile person (Ps.15:4; Isa.32:5-6; Dan.11:21), which is continued to the end of the chapter:
(1) His rise (Dan.11:21-22).
(2) The time from his making the covenant to the taking away of the daily sacrifice and setting up of the abomination of desolation (Dan.11:23-31).
(3) His career of blasphemous wickedness, to his destruction (Dan.11:32-45).

The last two periods answering to the week of years of his covenant with many, namely, in Israel (Dan.9:27), and the last being the final half week (3 ½ years) of the ninth chapter. But the context so accurately agrees with the relations of Antiochus to Ptolemy that the primary reference seems to be to the alliance (agreement) between them. As one that is foretold, Antichrist's relations towards Israel are probably well described. Compare (Dan.8:11, 25; 11:22), the prince of the covenant.

Daniel 11:24 He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: yea, and he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time. (KJV)
He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places . . . the very richest provinces, Coelesyria and Palestine. http://phoenicia.org/syria.html
Peaceably . . . he is literally unexpectedly . . . under the show of friendship, he seized Ptolemy Philometer. He shall do that which his fathers have not done . . . his predecessors, kings of Syria, had always coveted Egypt, but in vain . . . he alone made himself master of it. Scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches . . . among his followers, he was very generous. He scattered among them the plunder of his enemies, the spoil of temples, as well as his own revenues. He spent much in public shows, and bestowed his generosity among the people. It is said of him that in the abundant giving of gifts he abounded above all the kings that went before him. And he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds . . . he shall form a well-planned scheme for making himself master of the Egyptian fortresses. He gained them all except Alexandria, which successfully resisted him. Retaining to himself Pelusium, he retired to Judea, where, in revenge for the joy shown by the Jews at the report of his death, which led them to a revolt, he restrained Jerusalem by storm. http://www.britannica.com/place/Pelusium
Even for a time . . . his rage shall not be forever; it is only for a time limited by God. He suddenly mastered the weaker cities: he had to estimate his plans more gradually to gain the stronger fortresses.

Daniel 11:25 And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they shall forecast devices against him. (KJV)
This is a fuller detail of what was stated in verses 22-24. This is the first of Antiochus' three open invasions of Egypt (vs 29).  http://www.parthia.com/parthia_timeline.htm
He shall stir up his power . . . Antiochus marched against Ptolemy, the king of the south (Egypt), with a great army; but the Egyptian generals had raised a mighty force. Stirred up to battle . . . The two armies met between Pelusium and Mount Casius; but the king of the south could not stand . . . the Egyptian army was defeated. The next campaign he had greater success; he routed the Egyptian army, took Memphis, and made himself master of all Egypt, except Alexandria. And all these advantages he gained by calculating strategies; probably by corrupting his ministers and captains. Ptolemy Macron gave up Cyprus to Antiochus; and the Alexandrians were led to renounce their allegiance to Ptolemy Philometer, and took Euergetes, or Physcon his younger brother, and made him king in his stead. All this was doubtless by the corruptions of Antiochus.
A great army . . . is much different than the small people in verse 23; with which he first came. This was his first open expedition; he was emboldened by the success of it. Antiochus entered Egypt with an overwhelming multitude, with chariots, elephants and cavalry. Stirred up . . . by the need, even though he was naturally lazy. Not stand . . . Philometer was defeated. For they shall forecast devices against him . . . it seems that Philometer’s own nobles shall set disloyal and treacherous plans against him (see vs 26). Euloeus and Lenoeus mal-administered his affairs. Antiochus, when stopped at last at Alexandria, left Ptolemy Philometer at Memphis as king, pretending that his whole object was to support Philometer’s claims against the usurper Physcon. http://ancientegypt.wikia.com/wiki/Ptolemy_VIII_Physcon

Daniel 11:26 Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow: and many shall fall down slain. (KJV)
Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat . . . this is the proof of what has been last stated, that the conspiracies and plotting of Antiochus, corrupting the ministers and officers of Ptolemy, were the cause of all the disasters that fell on the Egyptian king. They that fed of the portion of his meat . . . those who were in his confidence and pay, and possessed the secrets of the nation, betrayed him. They were the ones who destroyed him and his army, so that he was defeated, as was before observed. Those from whom Ptolemy Philometer should have looked for help, his close intimate friends and those he depended on (Ps.41:9; 55:12-14, 20-22; Jn.13:18, 26-27), were the ones that shall destroy him.
His army shall overflow . . . Philometer's army shall be dissipated as water. The phrase shall overflow is used of overflowing numbers, usually in a victorious sense, but here in the sense of defeat, the very numbers which ordinarily ensure victory, hastening the defeat through evil misconduct. Shall overflow: (Isa.8:8; 10:22; 28:17; 43:2; Jer.47:2; Dan.11:10, 26, 40; Joel 2:24). Flood = armies Dan.9:26 Waters = people Jer.47:2; Is.17:12; Rev.17:15
Many shall fall down slain . . . many fell wounded to death. Antiochus, when he might have slain all in the battle near Pelusium, rode around and ordered the enemy to be taken alive, the fruit of which policy was, he soon gained Pelusium and all Egypt. http://www.britannica.com/place/Pelusium

Daniel 11:27 And both these kings' hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper: for yet the end shall be at the time appointed. (KJV)
And both these kings' hearts shall be to do mischief . . . meaning Antiochus and Ptolemy Philometer. Both do mischief to the other. Ptolemy Philometer was a nephew to the former, and whose interest he now pretended to have much at heart, since the Alexandrians had renounced their allegiance to him. He set his younger brother Euergetes upon the throne. When Antiochus came to Memphis, he and Philometer often had meetings at the same table; and at these times they simply lied to each other. Antiochus professing great friendship to his nephew and concern for his interests, yet in his heart planned to ruin the kingdom by increasing the discord which already existed between the two brothers. All the while, Philometer declared much gratitude to his uncle for the interest he took in his affairs, and laid the blame of the war upon his minister Eulaeus; while at the same time he spoke lies, deciding as soon as possible to put up matters with his brother, and join all their strength against their deceitful uncle. But it shall not prosper . . . neither one succeeded in his plan; for the end of the appointed time was not yet come.

Daniel 11:28 Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart shall be against the holy covenant; and he shall do exploits, and return to his own land. (KJV)
Then shall he return onto his land with great riches . . . Antiochus did return, loaded down with riches, from the spoils that he took in Egypt. When he heard that there had been a report of his death, at which the citizens of Jerusalem had made great rejoicings, his heart shall be against the holy covenant . . . he was determined to have severe revenge. Jason, who had been deprived of the high priesthood, hearing the report of the death of Antiochus, raised forces, marched against Jerusalem, took it, and forced Menelaus, the high priest, to shut himself up in the castle. Antiochus brought a great army against Jerusalem; took it by storm; slew 40,000 of the inhabitants; sold as many more for slaves; boiled swine's flesh, and strew the Temple and the altar with the broth; broke into the holy of holies; took away the golden vessels and other sacred treasures, to the value of one thousand eight hundred talents; restored Menelaus to his office; and made one Philip, a Phrygian, governor of Judea. This can be found in 1 Maccabees 1:19-20, 24 and 2 Maccabees 5:5, 14-21. These blasphemous abuses are what we could call abominable desolations (Dan.9:27; 12:11; Mat.24:15; Mk.13:14; Rev.13), which having finished, he returned to his own land. http://www.biblestudytools.com/encyclopedias/isbe/menelaus.html

Daniel 11:29 At the time appointed he shall return, and come toward the south; but it shall not be as the former, or as the latter. (KJV)
At the time appointed he shall return . . . return from his second open invasion of Egypt. Ptolemy Philometer, suspecting Antiochus' designs with Physcon, hired mercenaries from Greece. At which point Antiochus advanced with a fleet and an army, demanding the cession to him of Cyprus, Pelusium, and the country adjoining the Pelusiac mouth of the Nile.
But it shall not be as the former . . . not as successful as the former expedition. Popilius Loenas, the Roman ambassador, met him at Eleusis, four miles from Alexandria, and presented him the decree of the senate. Antiochus replying that he would consider what he was to do, Popilius drew a line round him with a rod and said, "I must have a reply to give to the senate before you leave this circle." Antiochus submitted, and retired from Egypt; and his fleets withdrew from Cyprus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaius_Popillius_Laenas
Or as the latter . . . the third invasion mentioned in Daniel 11:42-43. Or, making this the third expedition, the sense is, not as the first or as the second expeditions. Antiochus did not have the same success as the former, when he overthrew the Egyptian army at Pelusium; nor as the latter, when he took Memphis, and subdued all Egypt, except Alexandria.

Daniel 11:30 For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant. (KJV)
For the ships of Chittim shall come against him . . . Chittim is well known to mean the Roman Empire. Antiochus, was now in full march to besiege Alexandria, and within seven miles of that city, heard that ships were arrived there from Rome, with representatives from the senate. He went to salute them. They delivered the letters of the senate to him, in which he was ordered to put an end to the war against his nephews. Antiochus said he would go and consult his friends; on which Popilius, one of the representatives, took his staff, and drew a circle around Antiochus on the sand where he stood. He then commanded him not to pass that circle until he had given a definitive answer. Antiochus, frightened, said, he would do whatever the senate ordered; and a few days later began his march, and returned to Syria.
Therefore he shall be grieved . . . grieving and groaning, both mortified, humbled and disappointed. Have indignation against the holy covenant . . . Antiochus vented his rage against the Jews; sending his general, Apollonius, with 22,000 men against Jerusalem, plundered and set fire to the city, pulled down the houses round about it, slew much of the people, and built a castle on an eminence that commanded the Temple, and slew multitudes of the poor people who had come up to worship, polluted every place, which abandoned the Temple service, and all the people fled from the city. And when he returned to Antioch he published a decree that all should conform to the Grecian worship; and the Jewish worship was totally repealed, and the Temple itself consecrated to Jupiter Olympius. How terribly great the wickedness of the people must have been for God to tolerate this (Gen.6:5-7),
And have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant . . . meaning wicked Menelaus the high priest; and the apostate Jews united with him, who gave such information to Antiochus as agitated him against Jerusalem, the Temple and the people. The concluding thinking of Daniel’s prophecy is that it is really more perfect than any history, and is so exact, not only to the time of Antiochus Epiphanes, but also beyond that time.

Daniel 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. (KJV)
And arms shall stand on his part . . . after Antiochus, arms, meaning the Romans, shall stand up. Arms (Dan.2:32; 10:6; 11:15, 22, 31) in this prophecy everywhere mean military power, and shall stand (Dan.2:44; 8:22-23, 25; 11:2-4, 6-7, 20-21, 25, 31; 12:1) means the power in activity and conquering.
Up till now Daniel has described the actions of the kings of the north and of the south . . . that of the kings of Syria and Egypt; but, upon the conquest of Macedon by the Romans, he has not described the actions of the Greeks, and now begins to describe those of the Romans in Greece, who conquered Macedon, Illyricum and Epirus, in the year of the era of Nabonassar, 580. Thirty-five years later, by the will of Attalus, they inherited all Asia westward of Mount Taurus; sixty-five years after they conquered the kingdom of Syria, and reduced it into a province; and thirty-four years after they did the same to Egypt. By all these steps the Roman arms stood up over the Greeks; and after ninety-five years more, by making war upon the Jews, they polluted the sanctuary of strength, the Temple . . . so called because of its fortifications. They took away the daily sacrifice and placed the abomination that maketh desolate, or of the desolator; for that this abomination is, that will be placed after the time of Christ, in the Great Tribulation Period (Mat. 24:15).
In the sixteenth year of the Emperor Adrian, A.D. 132, they placed this abomination by building a temple to Jupiter Capitolinus, where the Temple of God in Jerusalem had stood; upon which the Jews, under Barchocab, rose up against the Romans. But in this war, fifty cities were demolished, 950 of their best towns destroyed, and 80,000 men were slain by the sword; and in the end of the war, A.D. 136, and evacuated Judea on pain of death; and from then on the land became desolate. http://www.bible-history.com/isbe/A/ATTALUS/

Antiochus came against Jerusalem in 170 B.C., at which time, it is said, that over 100,000 Jews were slain! He took away the daily sacrifice from the Temple, offered the blood and broth of a butchered hog on the altar, and set up an image of Jupiter to be worshiped in the holy place of the Temple of God (Ex.26:33). This was an abomination that maketh desolate . . . but this was NOT the abomination to which our Lord Jesus referred (Mat.24:15), which was yet future when He was on Earth and is still future in our day. The abomination that our Lord Jesus spoke of is that which Antichrist shall set up during the last 3 ½ years of the Great Tribulation Period. Antiochus set up an image of Jupiter in the holy place, and the Antichrist will probably set up an image of himself in the holy place in the Temple (Rev.13).

Daniel 11:32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits. (KJV)
And such as do wickedly against the covenant . . . there were some in the nation Israel who played the role of Judas (Mat.26:47-50), but there were many who knew God and were strong and did good (Acts 9:36). It was during this time that God raised up the family of the Maccabees. In 166 B.C. Mattathias the priest raised a revolt against the horrible blasphemy. The family was called the Maccabees, meaning the hammer. Even though they are not recorded in the Scriptures, I am sure that they were God's men for that particular time in history.  Sciptures.http://www.britannica.com/biography/Mattathias
But the people that do know their God . . . the genuine, TRUE believers in Almighty God. Shall be strong . . . shall be strengthened by God’s amazing grace and Spirit. And do exploits . . .  (vs 32-33) continue steadfast in all temptations, hold fast their faith, and have a good conscience. By gifts, promotions and promises Antiochus drew away great multitudes of these shameful people of Judea, always determined to backslide to his idolatrous and heathenish practices and interests. There were those who did stick to to the true worship of the God of Heaven, and were zealous for it, scorning Antiochus's gifts, and hating his ways, defying his force, not loving their lives to the death. Judas Maccabeus and his few followers did heroic acts against Nicanor and others. http://thetorah.com/yom-nicanor-13th-of-adar/
See: Special Comments God of Heaven, in chapter 2.

Daniel 11:33 And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days. (KJV)
And they that understand among the people . . . possibly this means the primitive Christians and apostles, who studied and understood the prophets, and believed Jesus was the TRUE Messiah.
Instruct many . . . preach the Gospel everywhere, and converting multitudes to the faith.
Yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days . . . they were exposed to the malice and fury of their enemies, during repeated persecutions, and suffered all kinds of tortures, with little intermission, for 300 dreadful years (vs 30).

Daniel 11:34 Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave to them with flatteries. (KJV)
Now when they shall fall . . . when the storm of the tenth persecution under Diocletian, which lasted ten years, fell upon them, they were sorely oppressed.
They shall be holpen with a little help . . . they were helped by Constantine, who while he removed all persecution, and promoted the temporal prosperity of the Christian Church, yet added very little to its spiritual perfection and strength. For many there, now seeing the Christians in prosperity . . . Cleave to them with flatteries . . . became Christians because the Emperor was one. http://ancienthistory.about.com/cs/people/p/constantine.htm
The Jews received little help in all their struggles with Antiochus Epiphanes, and they will receive little help in the time of the yet to come Antichrist. God in their great affliction, never leaves himself without witness, and He shall raise up some helper, to witness to this truth, to vindicate His honor and save His people from utter destruction. Israel is here to stay: (Jer.31:35-37; Isa.54:9-10).

Daniel 11:35 And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed. (KJV)
And some of them of understanding shall fall . . . quarrels on certain points of religion soon agitated those who worshipped the God of Heaven; and now, having no outward persecution, they began to persecute each other. Many good men, men of understanding, fell victims because they would not embrace erroneous doctrines, when professed by the state. To try them, and to purge, and to make them white . . . even the best of men have some dross (debris, dirt, filth, impurity), which brings afflictions and fiery trials . . . for the Word of God indicates all kind of examination and trials . . . just as founders try metals to purge them, or as corn is winnowed to cleanse it from chaff, or as fullers that wash and scour to take out spots, to bring all to the heartfelt profession and practice of Christianity.
Malachi 3:1-3 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. 2  But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: 3  And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. (KJV)
Even to the time of the end . . . to the time that God shall cause pure and undefiled religion everywhere to prevail. But . . . WHEN is the time appointed for this? The time of the end leaps forward in prophecy from Antiochus Epiphanes to the Antichrist. We move now from the history of that day into that which is yet in the future. All of this prophecy was in the future when Daniel gave it . . . some is now history and some is still in the future.
Antiochus is a type of antichrist, in his pride, covetousness, craft and cruelty against the people of God, and the blasphemies and idolatries to the reproach of Christ. For that reason it is here added, because it is yet for a time appointed.

Vicious and Vocal Volition of the Man of Sin (11:36-39)

Daniel 11:36 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. (KJV)
And the king shall do according to his will . . . some say that this refers to Rome, I think it refers to Antiochus, who symbolizes the yet to come Antichrist (the Beast), who shall come from the revived Roman Empire. He shall exalt himself above every god, called himself a god, played with all religions, profaned the Temple, etc., etc. Still others think an antichristian power in the Church is intended; for in the language of this prophecy, king is taken to mean a power, a kingdom, etc. That such a power did spring up in the Church that acted in an arbitrary manner against all laws, human and Divine, is well known. This power showed itself in the Greek emperors in the east, and in the bishops of Rome in the west. And this shall continue. Shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods . . . this is true of Rome, who would deify what they please, and defy, disregard, disobey or rebel against the Truth of Almighty God, which is so true of all the persecutors of Christ and Christians in the time of the emperors, but shall be much more notorious of the Roman Antichrist. This agrees with that prophecy (2 Thes.2:3-12; Rev.17:3). And shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done . . . then shall Antichrist continue long and prevail (Rev.1:1-18). Indignation is the same as what was called in Daniel 8:19, the last end of the indignation; and Daniel 9:27, the consummation . . . this means the end or consummation of God's indignation (anger) against the Jews. This seems more clearly expressed in: Daniel 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. (KJV) . . . Emphasis mine. . . .  When he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people . . . we see this still exists in the Church of Rome today, for when Rome shall be laid waste, then shall be redemption for Israel. It seems that the destruction of Rome and the restoration of the Jews shall come about at the same time.

Daniel 11:37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. (KJV)
Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers . . . it has been thought from this statement that Antichrist would have to be an Israelite. See special comments at the end of this chapteron the Antichrist.
This statement could refer to a Protestant, a Roman Catholic, or a heathen. Wherever Antichrist comes from, he will NOT regard (esteem, honor) the God of his fathers. We have examples of this in history. Smith, founded the American Association for the Advancement of Atheism, was the son of a Methodist minister, and Stalin at one time studied in a theological seminary.
I firmly believe that it takes two men to fulfill this satanic office of the Antichrist (Rev.13). The first beast (Rev.13:1; Dan.7:8, 24-25; 2 Thes.2:4), is a political ruler who comes out of the Roman Empire. I do not know if he is Jewish or not. The second beast (Rev.13:11), that arises is a religious leader, and he imitates Christ . . . it seems to me that he might possibly be a Jew.
Nor the desire of women . . . is difficult to interpret.  This may refer to the desire of every godly Jewish woman to bear the Messiah. Some interpret this as a reference to Tammuz, a pagan fertility goddess that women found appealing in Daniel’s day (Eze.8:14). Ishtar, the goddess of love brought destruction to many of her lovers, of whom the most notable was her consort Tammuz. http://www.hisservants.org/easter_h_s.htm
But there are many others who believe that the Antichrist will have no sexual desire for women. It seems to me that this view is most likely the correct view.

Not only will the Lord Jesus Christ be absolutely rejected, He will become the Enemy. The Antichrist shall lead a rebellion against God and Christ. Psalm 2:2-3 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3  Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. (KJV)
Nor regard any god . . . very plainly, this means that he will oppose all religions and worship, except worship of himself (Rev.13:14-15). He is not only a believer in the ecumenical movement, he promotes it; in fact, HE IS IT. One religion for the whole world will be his motto, and HE shall be that religionhttp://www.lastdaysprophecy.org/L_D_ec_ecumenism.htm
He shall magnify himself above all . . . this will be the final achievement of the self-will of this willful king. His total ambition is self-adulation.

This is an awful view of the final days of the Great Tribulation period: Rev. 13:15-17 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16  And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17  And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
(KJV) . . . You will not be able to go to a restaurant to eat, buy a ticket on a plane or train, go to a doctor, have a bank account, buy food at the grocery store, buy or sell anything or travel anywhere . . .  without the mark of the Beast. The Antichrist is going to be dictator with a vengeance! See end time signs:

Seven Facts about the Antichrist

1. He will disregard the God of his fathers, the TRUE God (Dan.11:37; Jn.5:43).
2. He will reject the gods that women desire.
3. He will reject every idol god (Dan.11:37).
4. He will exalt himself above every idol god, and even the one and only TRUE God (Dan.11:36-37; 2 Thes.2:4; Rev.13).
5. He will honor the god of forces (Dan.11:38).
6. He will honor a god whom his fathers knew not (Dan.11:38).
7. He will honor a strange god (Dan.11:37-39; 2 Thes.2:4; Rev.13:1-18).

Daniel 11:38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. (KJV)
Shall he honor the god of forces . . . or fortresses, the Antichrist will believe in a god that will give him military victory.  He idolizes power.  His forefathers did not recognize his new god.  This future ruler will honor his god with massive spending for a military armory.
Antichrist will honor the god of fortresses who had the kingdoms of the world. Who is that? It was/is Satan who offered to Christ the kingdoms of this world, and our Lord rejected his offer (Mat.4:8). It seems that Satan had a right to make that offer (Jn.12:31; 14:30; 16:11; Eph.2:2). Antichrist will accept the offer and become the world's dictator. We are told in that Antichrist will accept worship and will have the world worshiping Satan in that day. All the kingdoms of the world will be under his thumb, the first real worldwide dictatorship (2 Thes.2:4; Rev.13:4).
And a god whom his fathers knew not . . . Antichrist shall set up an unknown god, a new god, in the place of the god of his fathers (Apollo and Diana, deities of pleasure), he shall honor the god of forces, a supposed deity of power, a god whom his fathers did not know not, nor worshipped. He will be thought in wisdom and strength to excel his fathers. Shall he honor with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things . . . he shall honor this god with gold, silver, precious stones and pleasant things, thinking nothing is too good for the god he has taken a fancy to.

Daniel 11:39 Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain. (KJV)
In the most strong holds with a strange god . . . Antiochus will claim that his god, Jupiter Capitolinus, was responsible for his success in attacking Jerusalem, Sidon, Pelusium, and Memphis. He will divide his land with his apostate followers and make them rulers over the Jews. He shall use all authority to spread this idolatrous worship. Antiochus plainly symbolizes the Antichrist, who did not only take upon himself to dispose of kingdoms and provinces by usurped power, for his profit, but drew incredible masses of money from them.
The Great Tribulation period is going to be Satan's hour. He will make the most of it, because he knows his time is short (Rev.12:12). Antichrist will be the flexible tool to completely do the will of Satan in that day. He will rule over many people and dispose properties as he so pleases. He is the willful king and the final world dictator.

At this point in the Book of Daniel, history ends and prophecy begins. The writing goes from a despicable and vile person in Daniel’s day, to a horrible vicious character yet to come . . .  moving us out into the future of unknown time. Antiochus Epiphanes was without a doubt, an extremely contemptible and wicked person, but he could not measure up to the king described in verses 36-39. Antiochus was a symbol of the yet to come Antichrist, and it seems that this Passage of Scripture indicates that Antichrist will rise out of the geographical bounds of the ancient Grecian Empire.
There will be a political Antichrist, the one who is mentioned here, a Gentile raised out of the Roman Empire. There will also be a religious Antichrist who will pretend to be Christ and who will arise out of the land of Israel  . . . that one will be like a wolf in sheep's clothing (Mat.7:15).

Antichrist is given many names in Scripture.

Names of the Antichrist:
Abaddon:  (Rev.9:11
Abominable branch: (Isaiah 14:19)
Abomination of desolation: (Dan.12:11; Mat.24:15)
Adversary: (Psalm 74:8-10)

Son of perdition: (2 Thes.2:3)
Spoiler: (Isaiah 16:4)
Tempter: (Mat. 4:1)
Vile person: (Daniel 11:21)
Wicked one: (2 Thes.2:8)
Wicked prince of israel: (Eze.21:25)
The willful king: (Daniel 11:36)
Some of these are names for Satan, but he is the one empowering Antichrist.

The king shall do according to his will . . . Antichrist shall be self-willed, totally opposite to the Lord Jesus Christ who said: John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. (KJV)
Antichrist shall exalt himself . . . the little horn (the name given to Antichrist in chapter 7) tries to be a BIG horn. How utterly unlike the Lord Jesus this is! Christ Jesus made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross (Phil.2:5-8).
Antichrist shall magnify himself above every god.
2 Thes. 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (KJV)
Rev.13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (KJV)

It is utter blasphemy and rebellion against God which marks the willful king as the final display of humanism. Antichrist is the classic representative of all those that are against God and His Word, which in fact is our old nature. http://www.worldlychaos.org/w_c_apostasy.1.htm
Romans 8:7-8 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. (KJV)
Eph. 2:2-3 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3  Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (KJV)
Eph. 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. (KJV)
2 Tim. 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (KJV)
2 Peter 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: (KJV)
Rev. 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death(KJV)
Rev. 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. (KJV)

In the last days, the carnal mind of people will turn to the Antichrist. When people choose their own rulers and leaders, what kind of man do they choose? It is someone who is like they are, and want the same thing they do! My friend, THAT is the reason we are have such sorry leaders in the world today. The leadership of the world is scary! They are the ones the people picked out! WHAT DO PEOPLE WANT TODAY? They want some horrible things that are absolutely AGAINST the God of Heaven and His Holy Word: abortion, adultery, fornication, living together without being married, drugs, homosexuality, same sex marriage . . . etc., etc.

ALL these things are here now! God has told us right here in this amazing Book of Daniel that He would set over the kingdoms of this world the basest (corrupt, immoral, disreputable, vile) rulers. And He has! Look at what we have leading us today! And friend . . . it is NOT going to get any better!

Victory of the Willful King Is Temporary (11:40-45)

Daniel 11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. (KJV)
It is the time of the end . . . NOT the end of time. It is the end which Daniel has had in mind all through this section, which is the last days of the nation Israel, which the Lord Jesus labeled the Great Tribulation (Mat.24:21).
The king of the south is clearly a ruler of Egypt, but it is impossible for us to identify him. Egypt has not had a native ruler for years. God has done a pretty good job of putting over that nation the basest of rulers. However, this one who is going to arise at the time of the end will probably unite all of Africa as no leader of Egypt has ever been able to do, and he will come against Antichrist. The king of the north is more easily identified. He takes the place of the Seleucidae dynasty, and I think he is the one who comes out of the north mentioned in Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39. The king of the north, I believeis Russia. Russia will open the WAR of Armageddon which will not be just a battle, but I think a drawn out war. The way things are today, I think this is very close! It seems that at the very beginning, the king of the north will be eliminated as God moves in judgment upon that nation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seleucid_Empire

It is difficult to relate the rest of this chapter with the history of Antiochus, because it probably points characteristically to the Antichrist. Only one historian ever mentioned an expedition under Antiochus into Egypt at the end of his reign. This passage must then be either a prediction of activities of the future Antichrist, or a summation of the facts of Antiochus's first expedition to Egypt 171-170 B.C. (Dan.11:22, 25, 41), his former invasion of Judah (Dan.11:28, 42-42), and the second and third invasions of Egypt 169 and 168 B.C. (Dan.11:23-24, 29-30).
At the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him . . . in the last times, this cannot be true of Antiochus, who died the eleventh year of his reign, for these things are joined to the last resurrection (Dan.12:2).
The king of the South and the king of the North will simultaneously attack this ruler of the west, the little horn, at the end time. Some say the king of the North may be a ruler from the area of ancient Assyria.  Yet, he will overflow and pass over them to conquer the two kings (Dan.7:8, 24). The events of verses 40-45 takes place in the second half of the 70th week, the last 3 ½ years of the Tribulation. The kings of the south and the north will attack the Antichrist.

Daniel 11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. (KJV)
He shall enter also into the glorious land  . . . when Antiochus marched against Ptolemy, he did not meddle with Edom, Moab and Ammon on the side of Judea. It seems that he used their help in crushing the Jews, of whom they were the ancient enemies. This might be applied to Antiochus, although it seems to me that it also points to the future. The king of the future (Antichrist) will not attack Edom, Moab and Ammon . . . the ancient enemies of the Jews. Yet he will use their help in his attack on the Jews. But Israel will have the final vengeance (Isa.11:14). The pleasant land: (Dan.8:9; 11:16, 41, 45; Ps.48:2; 105:24; Jer.3:19; Eze.20:6, 15; Zec.7:14)
But these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon . . . Edom, Moab and Ammon are the territories where the sons of Ishmael (the Arabs) are today. The Antichrist will enter the pleasant land and defeat many there in the last half of the Tribulation. Ishmael was/is the father of the Arabs (Gen.16:12; 25:12-14)

Daniel 11:42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape. (KJV)
He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries . . . the countries referred to here must be the three kingdoms he will subdue (Dan.7:24), in addition to the rest of the ten kingdoms of Revised Rome that will submit to him (Rev.17:12-17), plus Libya and Ethiopia (Dan.11:43).
The land of Egypt shall not escape. . . IF the wars of Daniel 11:5-34 are only between Syria and Egypt, and IF the last-day war of Daniel 11:40-43 is between Syria and Egypt, ending with the overthrow of Egypt (the king of the south) by Syria (the king of the north), then it settles the question as to where Antichrist comes from. It seems that he arises from Syria and will fulfill the following prophecies: (Dan.7:8, 19-27; 8:9-14, 22;25; 9:27; 11:40-45; 12:1-7; Rev.6:1-8; 13 ;1-18; 16:13-16; 17:8-17; 19:19-21).
Egypt and the king of the south will yield to the Antichrist. Although Egypt and the adjoining countries long withstood under the Mamelukes, they were forced to submit to the Ottoman Empire. http://www.britannica.com/place/Ottoman-Empire

Daniel 11:43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. (KJV)
The Antichrist will have control of all the wealth of this world. He will control the entire money markets of the world at that time. Libya and Ethiopia will surrender to him and he will control Africa. Egypt, the Libya and Ethiopia . . . Egypt would be destroyed and her allies threatened. This king of the north could be Antiochus who had attacked Egypt at various times, but in my opinion, this points to the yet future little horn (Dan.7:8) who will bring war against these southern countries.

Daniel 11:44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many. (KJV)
But tidings out of the east and out of the north . . . tidings out of the east means the Orient with its swarming millions (Rev.9:13-21). A great army will come from there to the Battle of Armageddon, and this world ruler will be troubled. Dear one, at that time, there will be absolutely NO hope whatsoever for God's people, EXCEPT God Himself.

Daniel 11:45  And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. (KJV)
And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain . . . it seems that the Antichrist will make his capital the yet to be built Jewish Temple in Jerusalem, between the Dead Sea and the Mediterranean Sea in the glorious holy mountain, Mount Moriah (Gen.22:2, 14; 2 Chron.3:1); yet he shall come to an end at Armageddon (Dan.7:11, 26-27; 8:25; 9:27; 2 Thes.2:8; Rev.19:19-21). His end will be the lake of fire: (Dan.7:11; Isa.11:4; Rev.19:20; 20:10).
None shall help him . . . his army will be destroyed except a sixth part (Eze.39:2). His supernatural backers (Satan, bad angels and demons) will be cast into the bottomless pit (Rev.20:1-3; Isa.24:21-22), and he will be left alone to die eternally, as all evil men must do (Rev.19:20).
The events of verses 40-45 takes place in the second half of the seventieth seven . . .  second half, the last 3 ½ years of the Tribulation.

Special Comments for Daniel Chapter 11

The following web sites may help with your Bible study:

Ten Reasons Why Antiochus Epiphanes

He will do according to his own will (Dan.11:36).

Some Facts about the Antichrist

  • He will speak great words (Dan.7:8, 11, 20, 25; 8:23-25; 11:36; Rev.13:5).
  • He will be slain (Dan.7:11; 8:25; 11:45; Isa.11:4; 2 Thes.2:8; rev.19:20). To be slain (killed) at the Second Coming of Christ, the Antichrist must be a mortal man of the last days, one who must die his own appointed death (Heb.9:27). Because of this, he will not, he cannot be some historical man who has died and been resurrected as an immortal man and an incarnation of Satan, as some believe.
  • His body will be destroyed eternally (Dan.7:11; Mat.10:28; Lk.12:5).
  • His body will be cast into Hell’s lake of fire (Dan.7:11; Rev.19:20; 20:10).

The FALSE Christ, the Antichrist

The Bible describes this pretend Christ differently than what many people think. He will NOT be fearsome or frightening, not when he first comes on the scene. He shall win people over to him by being friendly, nice and warm towards them. He will use everything to his advantage. His charming personality and way with words will easily enable him to manipulate people to get his way. One of the devil’s most brilliant plans is to present himself NOT as a menacing monster but instead, as an appealing, charming angel of light (2 Cor.11:14). He knows very well that he can attract many more flies with honey that he can vinegar, and that he can advance his plan more effectively by using a friendly, likeable public image. The Bible then clearly tells us that this evil beast, the Antichrist will be charming, intelligent and silver-tongued. People will like him, and he will be a natural leader.

The Bible also tells us that the Antichrist will be successful in achieving something that has eluded some of the leading statesmen (and women) of our time . . . that being peace in the Middle East. THAT would be impossible unless he was important and likeable, and was observed by all parties as honorable, reliable, and trustworthy.

Will this man know that He is the Antichrist?

NO one knows who this man is! And I do not think that he knows he is the fourth beast (the antichrist). And NO one knows if this man is alive at this time. Only God knows this!

I do not think man will be known by the Biblical terms (Antichrist or Beast). I think he will be high up in government somewhere in the world, and I think he will be greeted as Mr. President, Mr. Prime Minister, Mr. Secretary, or some respectful title. So, will this evil man controlled by Satan, know who he is . . . or will he be more interested in the job that he is manipulated to do by unseen, sinister forces?

The Scriptures seem to indicate that he is self-aware and knows what he is doing. It seems that every move he makes is carefully and cleverly calculated. The grand performance he puts on to persuade Israel to sign his seven-year Mideast peace plan must surely be a thing of unequaled beauty (Dan.9:27).

Israel shall sign the peace treaty! BUT . . . mid way in the contract, the Antichrist breaks the treaty. Three and a half years later, this same so-called nice-guy (Antichrist) does an about-face, betrays Israel, and a multi-nation military force occupies Israel.

As I see it, from then on, I think that the man, Antichrist, will be well aware that he is definitely on a mission. In his mind, he may well think he is a power for good, like Hitler thought he was. He may not see himself as “evil,” per se. One thing about evil is, it has a non-fillable capacity for self-justification and self-deception. The Antichrist, like his boss (the Dragon), will be self-deceived.

Will the Antichrist Be Jewish?

I do NOT know if the Antichrist:

  • Will be Jewish or Gentile, or
  • Will come from any specific geographical location.

Below are some comments of others:

Daniel 11:37-38 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. 38  But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. (KJV) . . . From this Scripture, it seems that the Antichrist's Father Will Be Jewish. The Bible teaches that the Antichrist will not honor the God of his fathers. This seems to be proof that the Antichrist will have to be Jewish!
Nor the desire of women, nor regard any god . . . for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honor the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honor with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. If the Antichrist's fathers were Jewish fathers, then obviously he must be Jewish as well.

Jews today blatantly reject Jesus as their Messiah (Christ). But, Judaizers today are persistently looking for the Coming of their Messiah. They shall be shocked, because the one that shall come will be the coming Antichrist . . . whom they will receive.
John 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. (KJV) . . . Jesus’ Words!
In addition, the Bible teaches that the Antichrist will not honor the God of his fathers. Clearly, this plainly evidences that the Antichrist will be Jewish . . . or partly Jewish. See Daniel 11:37-38 above.
The Antichrist is called the man of sin, the son of perdition (2 Thes.2:3). He will be a totally lawless one. The ACLU, American Civil Liberties Union, was founded by Jews and is operated by Jews today. They are not only liberals, but they do NOT want anyone praying to Jesus. They want NO manger scene, NO Ten Commandments, NO Jesus in any way! BEWARE!!! The ACLU are ultimate law breakers. They hate the precious Name of Jesus.

Authentic vs. Counterfeit

The Antichrist’s first dealings with Israel, including his ability to get them to sign on to his Mideast peace treaty tell us that his true character will NOT be evident at first (Rev.6:2). But as the Tribulation progresses, it will become very clear that he is up to no good (Rev.3-8). Israel will be brought back to reality when he cancels his agreement with them half way through the peace treaty, and clears the way for an international military force to occupy Israel. They will finally realize that the Beast (Dan.7:7,19) is NOT the compassionate peacemaker he portrayed himself to be (Rev.6:2). He certainly will NOT be a friend of the Jewish people, but instead quite the opposite! He will be a Hitler-like, vicious anti-Semite. Hitler’s Holocaust will be mild when compared to what the Antichrist will do! Antichrist, the beast and the Dragon, the devil (Rev.ch.12; Rev.13:11,13; 16:13; 20:2) will know that IF they can exterminate the Jewish people, God will NOT be able to keep His Promises to Abraham. Their reasoning is sound and their plan is brilliant; BUT THEIR PLAN WILL FAIL.

The Antichrist’s Destiny

The Antichrist’s career will rise and fall quickly, probably less than 10 years. The world will be introduced to him when he emerges possibly as an economic or political leader somewhere in the Old Roman Empire world. I think that he will quickly earn worldwide acclaim when he successfully sets up a seven-year Mid-east peace agreement (Dan.9:27). During the first three and a half years, the Jewish people from the worldwide Diaspora will return as one to share in Israel’s newly won peace, prosperity and security (Isa.11:12,16; 27:13; 43:6; Zec.10:8-12). But, half way into the agreement, the Antichrist will break his promise and clear the way for an epic, anti-Semitic movement against Israel, which will exceed even Hitler’s Nazi Holocaust with its horrific murders and cruel inhumaneness. This second 3 ½ year period is called the Great Tribulation, because of its horrors (Mat.24:21).

After three and a half years of persecuting the Jewish people . . . seven years after the signing of the peace treaty . . . a huge, multinational military force will encompass Jerusalem, like a ravenous lion closing in for the kill after stalking its prey. This all will be organized by the Antichrist, the Beast (Dan.7:7,19), utilizing whatever resources are at his beck and call.

Just as the scales fell from Saul’s eyes, allowing him to see again (Acts 9:18), millions of Jews will finally SEE and recognize that Yeshua (JESUS) is their Messiah. God will touch their hearts and the scales of unbelief will fall from their spiritual eyes. Gospel seeds that have been sown in Israel and around the world for centuries by Messianic ministries and congregations will germinate at long last, taking root in their hearts! Virtually all Israel will be  born again in one day.
Romans 11:25-28 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26  And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27  For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. 28  As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. (KJV) . . . (Isa.45:17; 54:6-10; Jer.3:17-22; 31:31-37; 32:37-41).
The Apostle Paul looked forward to this glorious day when he said that the time would come when all Israel will be saved (vs.26). He said it would be like life from the dead (Rom.11:15). There is a day coming when masses of Jewish believers shall realize their terrible predicament, and call out for God to save them. Yeshua (JESUS) will descend from the heavens over Jerusalem and destroy Israel’s enemies in one, major swoop (Zec.14; Rev.19:11-21). Everything that the Antichrist, under the control of Satan, the Dragon (Rev.12), has been planning for years to accomplish (to utterly destroying Israel), will be undone in a matter of seconds at the end of Armageddon (Zec.12:11; Rev.16:16).
