Types of Christ in the Old Testament

Jesus can be found in some unexpected places, for those who really are hunting for Him. The Bible is all about Jesus Christ. If we really study, we can find Him . . . not only in the New Testament, but in the Old Testament, too. In the Old Testament, Jesus is often found in “type.” A type is an example or illustration that points to a person or an event. Finding Jesus in type can be a most exciting and rewarding study. Because most people will not take the time to study and hunt for Jesus, He remains hidden from view from most of the world. Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.(KJV)

Christ is foretold in the Old Testament many times and in many ways. Usually, we look at the prophecies about the Christ. But the Bible 'types' also tell us much about the Christ and His purpose. All through the Bible, God has great and reliable messages to us. His messages to us are about sin, sacrifice, forgiveness, mercy, love and redemption. From the fall of Adam and Eve to the end of the Bible, God’s plan of redemption remains unchanged, because God does NOT change (Mal.3:6; Rom.11:29; Heb.1:12; Jam.1:17).

We all are born with a sinful nature that separates us from God. Yet, God loves us so much that He planned and provided a way for us to be forgiven and redeemed, and made His friends instead of His enemies (Rom.5:10). In the New Testament, that Way . . . the ONE and ONLY Way is through the acceptance of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us on the cross at Calvary. God foretells His new covenant with us all through the entire Old Testament using stories, parables and types. Over and over again, the SAME story is told, through many 'types' in the Old Testament.
