Book of Ezekiel
Chapter 46
Chapter 46 gives instructions for worship on the day of the new moon, and on the Sabbath, and the gate by which the Prince (or King) would be required to enter the Temple. If someone entered by the north gate, he was to leave by the south gate; and if he entered by the south gate, he was to exit by the north gate. Here the King was to enter with the people and also to leave when they left. There are also directions for the King's offering of a voluntary burnt-offering or peace-offering.
The prophet sees in a vision the people, priest and Prince uniting in most solemn worship before the Throne of GOD. The character of the rites described here is symbolic.
It is hard to go back in time, to imagine a time when sacrifice was the only and satisfactory form of every thorough act of worship. That the killing an animal, or the presenting of an actual offering of some sort, was considered the heart of communication with GOD, may seem to us unbelievable to us, in the light of the idea of GOD which we now have. But, there is no doubt that this was true, and was the way the Jews recognized as the true approach to GOD.
The word sacrifice, is a memorial of this crude and early type of religious service. But by the time of Ezekiel, the age of sacrifice in this strict and total sense may be said to have passed away, at least in principle. Devout Jews who had lived through the captivity in Babylon and found that the Lord GOD was there to them a little of a sanctuary (11:16), could not possibly believe that their GOD was only to be approached and found through the ritual of the altar. And long before the Exile, the moral teaching of the prophets had led Israel to appreciate the external rites of sacrifice at their true value.
In this chapter we have, (1). Some further rules given both to the priests and to the people, relating to their worship (46:1-15). (2). A law concerning the Prince's disposal of His inheritance (46:16-18). (3). A description of the places provided for the boiling of the sacrifices and the baking of the meat-offerings ((46:19-24).
More Rules Given to Priests for
Their Worship of GOD (46:1-8)
Ezekiel 46:1 Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened. (KJV)
Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east . . . it was the east gate of the court next to the Temple, or which led into the inmost court, where the altar of burnt-offering stood. The east gate is where Ezekiel saw the glory of GOD leave, and return (10:19; 11:23; 43:1-4).
Shall be shut the six working days . . Six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work. Neither does this hinder holiness, as some think, but: (1). Prevents temptation; (2). nourishes experience of GOD’S bounty and wisdom; (3). Fills the heart with heavenly thoughts; (4). stirs up to prayer and praise for each day’s mercies.
But on the sabbath it shall be opened . . . this does not seem to mean the Jewish Sabbath now repealed in the times this vision refers to; but the LORD'S Day, which is called by this Jewish name here.
And in the day of the new moon it shall be opened . . . on stated monthly days, in which the Gospel churches meet together for religious service. The new moon, is a symbol of new light, and an increase of it, is very suitable to express the Gospel dispensation; in which, as some say, there are some specific seasons that may be called so; such as the Coming of CHRIST into the world; His resurrection from the dead; and the pouring forth of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost, that the people may see Christ in the mirror of the ceremonies, and call upon His Name. All under the Gospel shall have a much clearer light and free access, especially on LORD’S Days, and other times of holy meetings in the latter times.
Ezekiel 46:2 And the prince shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate without, and shall stand by the post of the gate, and the priests shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at the threshold of the gate: then he shall go forth; but the gate shall not be shut until the evening. (KJV)
And the prince shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate without . . . meaning by the way of the porch of the eastern gate, the outermost gate of the porch; for, as every gate had a porch, so too every porch had two gates, one at one end, and another at the other end. This was the outermost gate of the porch, which looked to the outward court, not the one that which led into the inner court. And shall stand by the post of the gate . . . waiting at the posts of the gates for wisdom. (Pro.8:33-36).
And shall stand by the post of the gate . . . this seems to mean the Presence of CHRIST, the Prince, with His people waiting at Wisdom's gate, and watching at the posts of her door. The reference seems to be to the king's pillar in the Temple, where he used to stand (2 Chron. 23:13). Some think this of Christ's incarnation, of His entrance into the world, and His standing before His Father, and praying for His people, as He did in the garden, and a little before his death (Jn.17:1).
And the priests shall prepare his burnt offerings, and his peace offerings . . . that is, they shall offer them. The meaning is, that the ministers shall preach CHRIST and Him crucified, who, by His Sacrifice, has made atonement for sin, and peace for His people. Although some interpret this of the concern the priests had in the crucifixion and death of Christ, but this seems wrong because it was the chief priests who condemned CHRIST to die (Jn.19:6).
And he shall worship at the threshold of the gate . . . he shall worship; he shall bow (Ex.12:27; 2 Chron.29:29-30).
Then shall he go forth . . . out of this world, to His Father, and be seen no more, until the restitution of all things . . . it seems that this and the preceding may be understood of Christ's spiritual worshipping; or of His people, who are one with Him; and of their departure from public worship, when it is over.
But the gate shall not be shut until the evening . . . of the Sabbath, or new moon; or the Second Coming of CHRIST. The Gospel ministry and ordinances will continue until then, and no longer; this is owing to His powerful and prevalent intercession in Heaven, where He is gone, then the door will be shut, and not before (Mat.25:10).
Ezekiel 46:3 Likewise the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before the LORD in the sabbaths and in the new moons. (KJV)
Likewise the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before the LORD. . . the people shall worship publicly, and in a spiritual way, attending to the care of the Word and ordinances with faithfulness and eagerly; praying to GOD, praising His Name, and paying close attention as they hear His Word. The reference is to the people of Israel meeting at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation (Ex.29:42).
In the sabbaths, and in the new moons . . . at their stated weekly and monthly meetings (Isa.66:23).
*****At the door of this gate . . . in Herod’s Temple the place for worshipping before the LORD was the court of Israel, west of the court of women, separated from the inner court by a low wall. In Ezekiel’s Temple, the worshippers were admitted into the inner court itself. The upper pavement, on either side of the eastern gate provided room for such worshippers.
Ezekiel 46:4 And the burnt offering that the prince shall offer unto the LORD in the sabbath day shall be six lambs without blemish, and a ram without blemish. (KJV)
And the burnt offering the prince shall offer unto the Lord in the sabbath day . . . (45:17), it is said to be the civil prince's part to give and prepare sacrifices in the feasts, new moons, Sabbaths and all solemnities; and there follows an account of them, for New Year's Day, and for the feasts of Passover and feast of the Tabernacles; and here an account is given of those for the Sabbaths and new moons; which is very properly reserved for this place, to follow the account of the opening of the eastern gate at those seasons: and what the burnt offering for the Sabbath shall be.
Six lambs without blemish, and a ram without blemish . . . according to the Law of Moses, only two lambs were the burnt offering for this day, besides the continual one (Num.28:9), here some confess their ignorance; and another says it is a new thing, and is proof that the ceremonial law being now ended. These seven solemnities indicate the perfect Sacrifice of CHRIST, by which He has perfected FOR EVER them that are sanctified . . . for He being without blemish, and with absolute purity and holiness, was accepted by GOD the FATHER, on behalf of those who believe on Him! THANK YOU JESUS!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
*****The burnt-offerings that the prince shall offer . . . the chief magistrate was always to attend the public worship of GOD, as well as the priest, to show that the civil and religious states were both under the same government of the LORD; and that no one was capable of being prince or priest, who did not acknowledge the Lord GOD in all his ways. It is so sad that lands mourn, where neither the established priest nor the civil magistrate have no fear or love for GOD. Ungodly priests, corrupt magistrates and heretical false teachers are a curse to any land. A warning, BEWARE!!! The LORD watches you!
Ezekiel 46:5 And the meat offering shall be an ephah for a ram, and the meat offering for the lambs as he shall be able to give, and an hin of oil to an ephah. (KJV)
And the meat offering shall be an ephah for a ram . . . (45:24).
And the meat offering for the lambs as he shall be able to give . . . it was fixed and stated under the law (Num.28:9), but now would be free and voluntary, and according to the ability of the giver. The one who officiates for the Prince, and in His Name, and sets before the people the meat, or rather bread offering, CHRIST is the bread of life, freely and according to the ability and measure of the gift of grace bestowed on him.
And an hin of oil to an ephah . . . (45:24), which was also a larger quantity than under the law, meaning the larger measure of the gifts and graces of the SPIRIT, symbolized by oil, given to the ministers of the Word, and the people also.
Ezekiel 46:6 And in the day of the new moon it shall be a young bullock without blemish, and six lambs, and a ram: they shall be without blemish. (KJV)
And in the day of the new moon it shall be a young bullock without blemish . . . this is also different from the Law of Moses, which required two young bullocks and a ram, and seven lambs (Num.28:11), where here only one bullock.
And six lambs, and a ram; they shall be without blemish . . . here some acknowledge that this is something new to be done in the latter days. Some say that the seven lambs under the Law showed that perfection might be hoped for and expected; but, there being just six here, may mean that although perfection is come by the priesthood of CHRIST, whose ONE Sacrifice was perfect and complete, by which His people are perfected, and they are complete in Him . . . yet they have no perfection in themselves.
Ezekiel 46:7 And he shall prepare a meat offering, an ephah for a bullock, and an ephah for a ram, and for the lambs according as his hand shall attain unto, and an hin of oil to an ephah. (KJV)
And in the day of the new moon it shall be a young bullock without blemish . . . this is also different from the Law of Moses, which required two young bullocks and a ram, and seven lambs (Num.28:11), where here just one bullock.
And six lambs, and a ram; they shall be without blemish . . . here again some say that this is a new thing to be done in latter days. This may be to indicate that as it is necessary for us to keep the Sabbath; so it also is necessary that we rely upon CHRIST for payment of our week days’ sins, and those where we fall into, even on that holy day.
Ezekiel 46:8 And when the prince shall enter, he shall go in by the way of the porch of that gate, and he shall go forth by the way thereof. (KJV)
And when the prince shall enter, he shall go in by the way of the porch of that gate . . . (46:2).
And he shall go forth by the way thereof . . . the same way He came in, He shall go out. Go forth by the way thereof . . . the prince would, but none of the people might do so, only the prince and the priests might go out the same way they came in. This was the prince’s privilege, as was the priests, he might go in and go out at the same east gate. It is right that magistrates and ministers be joined in holiness
More Rules given to the people for
Their Worship of GOD (46:9-15)
Ezekiel 46:9 But when the people of the land shall come before the LORD in the solemn feasts, he that entereth in by the way of the north gate to worship shall go out by the way of the south gate; and he that entereth by the way of the south gate shall go forth by the way of the north gate: he shall not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in, but shall go forth over against it. (KJV)
But when the people of the land shall come before the LORD in the solemn feasts . . . to worship the LORD, to pray and praise Him; to honor the LORD, and keep the solemn feast of love, the LORD'S Supper.
He that entereth in by the way of the north gate to worship shall go out by the way of the south gate; and he that entereth in by the way of the south gate shall go forth by the way of the north gate . . . as the north and the south gates were opposite to each other, he that came in at the north must go out at the south; he that came in at the south must go out at the north. No person was to come in at the east gate, because there was no gate at the west; and the people were not permitted to turn round and go out at the same way which they came in; for this would be like turning their backs on GOD, and the dignity and reverence with which public worship was to be conducted would not allow this. And too, returning by the same way would have brought about confusion, where people would have bumped into each other, in their meetings in different parts of this area.
*****No mention is made of entering in by the east gate, which was only for the Prince (44:1), and there was no entering in, or going out on the west.
Ezekiel 46:10 And the prince in the midst of them, when they go in, shall go in; and when they go forth, shall go forth. (KJV)
And the prince in the midst of them . . . CHRIST, the Prince shall be in the midst of His people while worshipping. This position of Him agrees with every description of Him in the Holy Word of GOD: as the Angel in the midst of the bush on fire, and not consumed (Ex,3:2); as among the myrtle trees in the bottom (Zec.1:8); as walking in the midst of the fire (Dan.3:25);
as in the midst of the golden candlesticks (Rev.1:12-13); as the tree of life in the midst of the paradise of GOD; (Rev.2:7); as our High Priest (Heb. 2:17; 3:1; 4:14-15; 5:5-6, 10; 6:20; 7:1, 3, 11, 15, 17, 20-21, 26; 8:1, 3; 9:11); as our Prince of Peace (Isa.9:6; Eph.2:14-18); and as our King (Ps.2:8-9; 110:1; Isa.9:7; 11:1-5; 32:1; 40:10-11; Jer.23:5; Dan.2:44-45; 7:13-4; Mic.5:2-4; Zec.6:13; 9:9; Eph.1:20-23; Mat.2:2, 6; 21:5; 27:11; Rev.1:5; 2:26-27; 20:4, 6).
When they go in, shall go in; and when they go forth, shall go forth . . . when they go to the Throne of Grace, the Prince goes with them; because their only access is through Him. He, as Mediator, introduces them, presents their petitions, is their Advocate and Intercessor for them, and for His sake they are heard and accepted. When they go into the House of GOD, they go in to find pasture, He goes in with them, before them as the Shepherd of the flock, and leads them into green pastures. He teaches them how to go in and out, and how to conduct themselves in the Presence of GOD. CHRIST is their Guide, instructing them by His Word and by His SPIRIT. When they leave public service to go to their own houses, He goes with them, and by His SPIRIT brings to their remembrance what they have heard (Jn.14:26); and when they go back into the world and the business of it, He goes with them, to keep them them from the evil of the world and to keep them from falling and when they leave the world at death, He is with them through the valley of the shadow of death (Ps.23:4); He sees that His angels shall carry them safely over Jordan's river (Lk.16:22), and introduces them into the heavenly Canaan, into His Kingdom and His glory, where they shall be with Him forever.
Ezekiel 46:11 And in the feasts and in the solemnities the meat offering shall be an ephah to a bullock, and an ephah to a ram, and to the lambs as he is able to give, and an hin of oil to an ephah. (KJV)
And in the feasts, and in the solemnities . . . or the appointed times for public worship, for the overseeing the Word and ordinances, which are feasts and solemn seasons (45:15). Some see a difference between feasts and solemnities and that being all feasts are called solemnities, or fixed seasons (Lev.23:4), yet there are some solemnities that are not feasts (Gen.1:14).
The meat offering shall be an ephah to a bullock, and to the lambs as he is able to give, and an hin of oil to an ephah . . . the same to be done on all feasts and solemnities as on the Sabbath Day (46:5).
Ezekiel 46:12 Now when the prince shall prepare a voluntary burnt offering or peace offerings voluntarily unto the LORD, one shall then open him the gate that looketh toward the east, and he shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, as he did on the sabbath day: then he shall go forth; and after his going forth one shall shut the gate. (KJV)
Now when the prince shall prepare a voluntary burnt offering, or peace offerings voluntarily unto the LORD . . . meaning on week days, different from Sabbath days, new moons, feasts and solemnities, of which said before and seems to have respect to week day lectures, separate from the weekly and monthly stated times, for the ministry of the Word and administration of the LORD'S Supper; in which sermons of the principal thing insisted on must be the atoning Sacrifice of CHRIST, and peace and reconciliation made by His Blood; for the Gospel, which is to be preached in season and out of season, (Tit.4:2), and is the ministry of reconciliation, or the preaching of peace by JESUS CHRIST; and which should at all times be brought forth, as well as the faith of GOD'S people; which is meant by preparing these offerings: being brought voluntarily and willingly, which not only show that CHRIST'S ONE Sacrifice was a willing one, and offered without any reluctance whatsoever, and with all eagerness and joy. All week day sermons are voluntary and are not necessary to attend, but is a matter of free choice, and yet are acceptable to GOD, and agrees to the will of CHRIST, the Prince, Who is said to prepare these free will offerings.
One shall then open him the gate that looketh toward the east . . . the place where the prince stood and worshipped on the Sabbath Day; on the evening of which it was shut, and remained so the six days of the week (46:1). It was only when it was the prince's pleasure to offer a sacrifice, or to have the Word preached, it was opened by one of the porters of the gates.
And he shall prepare his burnt offerings, and his peace offerings, as he did on the sabbath day . . . the same doctrine, respecting the Sacrifice and Satisfaction of CHRIST, must be delivered at such times, as on LORD'S Days.
Then he shall go forth; and after his going forth one shall shut the gate . . . on the Sabbath Day, or the Day (Sunday), it was not to be shut until the evening, because that day is to be entirely devoted to the service of GOD. People are not to find their ways, nor do their work, nor seek pleasure except on week days. When the sermon is over, the gate is shut, persons may return to their homes and worldly business.
Ezekiel 46:13 Thou shalt daily prepare a burnt offering unto the LORD of a lamb of the first year without blemish: thou shalt prepare it every morning. (KJV)
Thou shalt daily prepare a burnt offering unto the Lord . . .(46:2), a burnt offering is called the daily sacrifice (Dan.8:11), typical of CHRIST'S Sacrifice for us, which has a continual, non-stop daily virtue in it, to take away the sins of His people; and which must be looked to in faith (Rom.5:1), and pleaded by them for that purpose every day (Jn.1:29).
Of a lamb of the first year without a blemish . . . a lamb (46:4), a type of CHRIST, the Lamb of GOD, without spot and blemish (1 Pet.1:19) and so right and proper to be a Sacrifice for the sins of others.
Thou shalt prepare it every morning . . . this seems to be said not to the Prince, but rather to Ezekiel, and definitely to every believer, who should, every morning when arising, look to CHRIST as the atoning Sacrifice for sin, whose precious Blood continually cleanses from sin, and Who is always in the midst of the Throne as a Lamb that had been slain (Rev.5:6) and ever lives to make intercession (Heb.7:25); and since the mercies of the LORD'S people are renewed every morning, they should also renew their thankfulness to GOD the same way and as often, and bring this Lamb with them (Jn.14:20), through whose Sacrifice their sacrifices of praise (Heb.13:15) become acceptable. No mention is made of the evening sacrifice (Ex.29:38), which some think is included in the morning burnt offering. Some think that in the latter days this will not to be offered, only the morning sacrifice; because CHRIST has appeared ONCE in the evening of the world (Mk.15:33-34), and offered Himself up. CHRIST having come, and having offered Himself now in the end of the world (Heb.9:26), Israel should look at Him as the evening sacrifice, about the time of the offering up of which He died. CHRIST answered to the type of the Passover lamb; so no evening sacrifice is mentioned,
Ezekiel 46:14 And thou shalt prepare a meat offering for it every morning, the sixth part of an ephah, and the third part of an hin of oil, to temper with the fine flour; a meat offering continually by a perpetual ordinance unto the LORD. (KJV)
And thou shalt prepare a meat offering for morning . . . a meat-offering (46:7), for the daily burnt offering, and to go along with it prayer and thanksgiving for our physical and spiritual food (Mat.6:11), which should be done every morning.
The sixth part of an ephah, and the third part of an hin of oil, to temper with the fine flour . . .
(45:13), to mix with it, and moisten it. The Law states it differently: Numbers 28:5 And a tenth part of an ephah of flour for a meat offering, mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oil. (KJV) . . . So, this means with the Law being revoked, in the latter days, a new rule shall take effect, showing us that as the blessings of grace abound under the Gospel in the latter days. Blessings shall abound in thanksgiving and praise to the Lord GOD!
A meat offering, continually, by a perpetual ordinance unto the Lord . . . continually, morning by morning, these kinds of sacrifices are never to stop; A perpetual ordinance shall continue until the MESSIAH comes, who will set up a better spiritual worship. The sacrifice of praise shall never cease.
Ezekiel 46:15 Thus shall they prepare the lamb, and the meat offering, and the oil, every morning for a continual burnt offering. (KJV)
Thus shall they prepare . . . this shows that not just a single person is meant in the preceding verses, but instead ALL the LORD'S people; who all are priests (1 Pet.2:5, 9) unto GOD, and who are by themselves, able to offer up daily spiritual sacrifices unto Him.
The lamb, and the meat offering, and the oil every morning, for a continual burnt offering . . . which is repeated to confirm it, and to stimulate a careful and constant attention to it.
An Order for the Prince's Inheritance (46:16-18)
Ezekiel 46:16 Thus saith the Lord GOD; If the prince give a gift unto any of his sons, the inheritance thereof shall be his sons'; it shall be their possession by inheritance. (KJV)
Thus saith the Lord GOD . . . having finished the account of the monthly, weekly and daily sacrifices of the prince and people, here His gifts are two fold; some given to His sons, others to His servants.
If the prince give a gift to any of his sons . . . CHRIST, the Prince, has sons; He that is the Prince of peace IS the everlasting Father (Isa.9:6). http://www.godcannotlie.org/book_of_isaiah_ch.9.htm
He has children given unto Him (Jn.10:29-30), whom He preserves; a seed promised to Him in covenant, which shall always endure; a family over which He is Master of and cares for; for whose sake He became incarnate (Jn.1:14), suffered, bled and died (Jn.19:30). They are His sons by the adopting grace of GOD (Rom.8:15-17, 23; Gal.4:5-7).
The inheritance thereof shall be his sons', it shall be their possession by inheritance . . . it shall ever remain with them, shall never be taken away from them . . . for these are gifts and calling they are irreversible blessings, which are FOREVER! The sanctifying grace of GOD is a well of living water (Jer. 2:13; Jn.4:10-11; 7:38), springing up unto eternal life; faith, hope, love, and always abiding! Christ's justifying righteousness (Rom.3:24-25; 5:1-2) is everlasting and His pardon of sin is of ALL sin, past, present and to come, and is never made void or revoked once a person is a TRUE child of GOD, and the inheritance of heaven is incorruptible, never fading, and eternal; and all this flows from the never changing love of GOD and CHRIST to these sons of the Prince. http://www.hisservants.org/once_saved,_always_saved_h_s.htm
The inheritance thereof . . . the right to Israel of those houses or lands, shall descend to their children’s children (Ex.34:7), they shall enjoy and possess it, as heirs possess an inheritance.
Ezekiel 46:17 But if he give a gift of his inheritance to one of his servants, then it shall be his to the year of liberty; after it shall return to the prince: but his inheritance shall be his sons' for them. (KJV)
But if he give a gift of his inheritance to one of his servants . . . who are not his sons, but his hired servants, and who serve Him in a greedy way; those who are false preachers of the Word, who preach CHRIST in deception, not in reality, but to serve themselves, and not the LORD, never to advance His glory, just their own . . . all false professors have just a form of godliness (2 Tim.3:5), with no power of the SPIRIT . . . to these CHRIST may give worldly gifts of wealth and riches, but not with His grace . . . for these are His left hand blessings, which are given to people of the world, who already have their portion in this life (Mat.25:33, 41).
Then it shall be his to the year of liberty . . . to the servants to whom the gift of his inheritance is given, who when they make no use of, or ill use of it, takes it away them, and gives it to them to those that have more, and use it in a right way (Lk.19:20-24).
After it shall return to the prince . . . indicating that gifts to servants are reverted back to the donor of them; who will call these servants to an account for them at death or judgment, if not in their life time.
But his inheritance shall be his sons' for them . . . the prince's son’s inheritance shall be theirs; because they are sons and they are heirs, heirs of GOD, and joint heirs with CHRIST (Rom. 8:17), meaning that which is given to them for an inheritance shall remain theirs; it shall never be taken from them, nor revoked, but it shall be theirs to enjoy forever; which confirms what is said in the verse 16.
*****Death is a time of liberty from civil bondage, the servant is free from his master; and when good men are freed from the oppression of others, and from sin, Satan and the world, and are delivered into the glorious liberty of being the children of GOD.
2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (KJV) . . . We must DIE to self, sin and worldly things or we are NOT children of GOD! Until a person is born again (Jn.3:3-8), they are children of the devil (1 Jn.3:10).
John 8:34-36 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (KJV)
It is only right and fit that there is a difference between a child and a servant. The servant dos NOT abides not in the house forever, as the son does.
Ezekiel 46:18 Moreover the prince shall not take of the people's inheritance by oppression, to thrust them out of their possession; but he shall give his sons inheritance out of his own possession: that my people be not scattered every man from his possession. (KJV)
Moreover the prince shall not take of the people's inheritance by oppression, to thrust them out of their possession . . . shall not take, seize and cheat as Ahab dealt with Naboth (1 Ki.21).
CHRIST the Prince, will never do this; He will never take any part of His people's inheritance from them, or throw them out of their possession; they have chosen that good part which shall never be taken from them (Lk.10:42). This is said to express His compassion, grace and goodness to His subjects, and their safety and security under Him.
But he shall give his sons inheritance out of his own possession . . . whatever it is that CHRIST gives His sons, be it present grace or future glory, it is out of His own possession; because all that the Father has is His. All the blessings of goodness are with Him; all the fullness of grace is in Him; the eternal inheritance is reserved with Him in Heaven, and what He gives is HIS because it belongs to Him, not another. Psalm 50:10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. (KJV) . . . Since GOD the FATHER and CHRIST JESUS the Son are ONE and the same (Jn.10:30), whatever the Prince gives belongs to HIM!
That my people be not scattered every man from his possession . . . that they may be kept together in their own land.
The Courts for Boiling and Baking (46:19-24)
Ezekiel 46:19 After he brought me through the entry, which was at the side of the gate, into the holy chambers of the priests, which looked toward the north: and, behold, there was a place on the two sides westward. (KJV)
After he brought me through the entry, which was at the side of the gate . . . the north gate of the inner court, where the prophet was last (44:4), through an entry, by the side of it, he was brought by this Man, his Guide, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass (40:3).
Into the holy chambers of the priests . . . (42:13),
And, behold, there was a place in the two sides westward . . . or on the west side of the chambers. Some read it, behold, there was a place enclosed. The Targum is: at the west end of them. The use of this place follows in verse 20.
*****We left the prophet (44:4) on the inside of the north gate, and now we find him going through a private entrance by the side of that gate, to the holy chambers appointed for the priests. The holy chambers: (40:45-46; 42:13-14).
Ezekiel 46:20 Then said he unto me, This is the place where the priests shall boil the trespass offering and the sin offering, where they shall bake the meat offering; that they bear them not out into the utter court, to sanctify the people. (KJV)
Then said he unto me . . . telling me what this place was, and what it was for,
This is the place where the priests shall boil the trespass offering, and the sin offering . . . this was the priests' kitchen, where they prepared the trespass offerings that were to be eaten. The meat offering, or bread offering (45:24; 46;5-6) made of fine flour and oil; typical of CHRIST the Bread of GOD (Jn.6:33), the TRUE food of believers (Jn.6:48-58), who is set forth as Bread to them in the ministry of the Gospel. The baking of this indicates the same as the boiling of the other before (Lev.2:1).
That they bear them not out in the utter court, to sanctify the people . . . that the sacrifices might not be carried through the outer court, where the common people were, lest they should think it was lawful for them to eat of them, when they belonged only to the priests, or that they would touch them, and think that they were holy (Hag.2:12). The Targum is, lest they be mixed with the people. To sanctify the people (44:19).
*****This seems to show, that the doctrine of peace, pardon, atonement and satisfaction for sin, is only to be preached to those that truly repent of sin, and believe in CHRIST JESUS; and mainly that the ordinance of the LORD'S Supper, in which the Sacrifice of CHRIST is honored and commemorated . . . and not to be administered to men in common, but only to holy and regenerate persons. To do otherwise would be to cast pearls before swine and give that which is holy to dogs (Mat.7:6).
Ezekiel 46:21 Then he brought me forth into the utter court, and caused me to pass by the four corners of the court; and, behold, in every corner of the court there was a court. (KJV)
Then he brought me forth into the utter court . . . from the holy chambers of the priests, and from seeing the place where they boiled the sacrifices, and baked the meat offering.
And caused me to pass by the four corners of the court . . . in each of the four corners of the outward court there was another court; indicating that there will be courts or churches in the several parts of the world in the latter day.
Ezekiel 46:22 In the four corners of the court there were courts joined of forty cubits long and thirty broad: these four corners were of one measure. (KJV)
In the four corners of the court there were courts joined . . . to the side walls of the outward court, which were made with chimneys, as some render it, so that the smoke from the fire of the kitchens in them, and the steam of the boiled flesh, might rise out through them.
Of forty cubits long, and thirty broad . . . an oblong courtyard.
These four corners were of one measure . . . the courts that were in these four corners were of the same measure as to length and width; indicating equality in the Gospel churches, being of the same faith, order and discipline, power and authority.
*****These courts in the corners of the outer court, seem to have been a kind of uncovered apartments, surrounded with little chambers for the cooks, and used for preparing the peace offerings of the people. On these, their families and friends feasted; and portions were sent to the poor, the widows and the orphans; and thus was the spirit of mercy, charity and benevolence in the land.
Ezekiel 46:23 And there was a row of building round about in them, round about them four, and it was made with boiling places under the rows round about. (KJV)
And there was a row of building round about in them . . . inside the courts, not on the outside of them: there were either chambers to eat the sacrifices, or there were sheds which covered the cooks and the meat they were boiling from the rain. Some interpret this row of building as a stone wall
Round about them four . . . around the four courts at the four corners.
And it was made with boiling places under the rows round about . . . under these rows of building, chambers, porches or sheds; or under these stone walls were furnaces and caldrons, set on them, for the boiling of the sacrifices.
Ezekiel 46:24 Then said he unto me, These are the places of them that boil, where the ministers of the house shall boil the sacrifice of the people. (KJV)
Then said he unto me, these are the places of them that boil . . . He is still the Man, his Guide, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass (40:3), who said unto me, these are kitchens, in which those whose business it was to boil the sacrifices did it; and who they were are next stated.
Where the ministers of the house shall boil the sacrifice of the people . . . these seem to be the Levites, separate from the priests before mentioned; although in this prophecy they are both used of the same persons (44:15). The sacrifice of the people was the peace offerings, which the people might eat of, but was first to be boiled; typical of peace and reconciliation made by CHRIST, held forth in the ministry of the Word, called from there the word of reconciliation (2 Cor.5:19), of the boiling of sacrifices (44:15). The Targum is, the holy sacrifices of the people.
(Rom.12:1).
*****We have been following the footsteps of the prophet in several Chapters through the apartments of this great city, which the LORD showed in vision to this man of GOD. It relates to the Gospel Church in the Millennial Kingdom, and it still is a question; Will we be citizens of it, and entitled to its blessed privileges? Surely the citizens of it shall be under the unique Eye and good will of the Blessed LORD! Is Jesus precious to you? Is His Name always as a salve applied on a hurt to comfort? Is His people, ordinances and holy days beloved by us? Are you looking for the LORD'S Return, that when He, Who is our life shall appear?
It is a true blessing to belong to the family of GOD by faith in CHRIST JESUS, because if our LORD has made us free, we are free indeed! Revelation 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (KJV)
Special Comments
In all the other of the 7 great feasts of the Lord GOD during the year, sacrifices will be offered (45:17; 46:11).
Daily sacrifices (46:13-15): a lamb for a daily morning sacrifice will be offered with its flour, oil, and wine. This will be a continuous ordinance unto the LORD (45:14). Two daily sacrifices were required under the Law of Moses: one in the evening and one in the morning; so here another change is in the law concerning sacrifices of the future.
Sabbath sacrifices (46:1, 3, 6-7): a ram and six lambs will be offered on every Sabbath by the Prince of Israel for the people, with the proper amounts of flour, oil, and wine (45:5-7). This will take place on every one of the 52 weekly Sabbaths and on every special Sabbath.
In the day of the new moon (46:1, 3, 6-7): a bullock, a ram and six lambs will be offered, with their flour, oil, and wine (43:23).
In addition to the above there will be many freewill offerings and sacrifices, as men of all nations come to Jerusalem and the sanctuary to worship from year to year (Isa.2;1-4; Zec.14:16;21).
The prophet sees in vision the people, priest and Prince uniting in most solemn worship before the Throne of GOD. The character of the rites described here is symbolic.
The Prince in the midst.
The Prince shall mean to us the Man, CHRIST JESUS, whom GOD has exalted to be a Prince and a Saviour. Isaiah calls Him the Prince of Peace (Isa.9:6) and Peter calls Him the Prince of Life (Acts 3:15). I don’tt know where the Prince’s central palace is, nor where He holds His court. It is in the far country (Mat.21:33) which no human eye has ever seen; somewhere beyond the unknown seas which no one can navigate, and from which no traveler has come back to tell of. We must live in hope that on some coming day we shall see the King in His glory. We shall see the Prince is in our midst. It is rare that the monarchs of Earth today live like that, most of them are shut up in their magnificent seclusion. Most people know only the names of the great and noble and all of them are far, far away from the poor . . . but our Prince shall have NO preference, NO selection, NO priority . . . He shall be in the midst of ALL His people, where His love, His light and His smile are always to be seen.
The gifts of His bounty are as free to the man who is meek and lowly, and to the sons of poverty, as to the sons of wealth. But it is sad to say that it is not everyone who recognizes the Presence of the Prince in today’s world. His smile may be as warm as the early morning sunlight, but most do not even know that He is near.
What about your obedience to Him? Do you submit to His authority? Do you obey Him? This Prince has laws, do you honor them? This Prince should be respected, do you reverence Him? This Prince covets your affections, do you love Him more than any other person or any other thing? We must be faithful in the awesome Presence of His royalty. We must remember that those who are loyal to Him, that the Prince is always with them. He does not leave them after the morning prayer and then retire to His throne of glory. He is always near to bless, to comfort and to guide. His voice is gentle, His touch is tender and His fellowship sweet. He makes our sick chamber the gate of Heaven.
The Prince is in the midst of them! Is this not an outstanding Promise for us, as we consider our departure from this Earth? Our going forth from the brief life which is here our portion here on Earth, will come to all of us one day, unless He comes and takes us Home at the Rapture (1 Thes.4:13-18). We do not know the day, but at the bedside of the dying, Christ enters, and He shall not leave us alone. He will walk through the valley of the shadow of death (Ps.23:4) with us, and then I believe that we shall be carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom (Lk.16:22).
I think the record of leaving this life on Earth for GOD’S TRUE children is very encouraging, because the LORD has told us what shall happen to us, and He cannot lie (Tit.1:2).

CHRIST the Prince.
(1). It is only right that CHRIST be Prince.
(2). His character. Grace not only poured into Christ’s lips, but grace is His beauty and glory in all respects. Supreme Holiness, purity, forbearance and tenderness set apart His dealings; absolute honesty, meekness and love is the heart of His life.
(3). His dominion, Prince of the kings of the earth (Rev.1:5). His rule is spiritual. His rule casts down moral opposition, overcomes enmity, unbelief, thoughts that exalt a person against GOD, and brings them captive to Divine will.
CHRIST among His people
(1). As a Ruler among His people.
(2). As a Teacher among His disciples.
(3). As a Shepherd among His flock.
(4). As a Physician among His patients.
(5). As a Husbandman in His vineyard.
